After a thanksgiving holiday of frustration, I believe I have figured out why some people (including myself) are have problems viewing the network shares on a XP box.

It lies withing the local security policy on the XP box. Go to start->run->secpol.msc to open up the local security policy and below I have created a word document showing you which policies need to be edited.

A couple of other things that need to be done is the telnet service needs to be running as well on the XP box and not only the sharing permissions need to set for the guest user but on the security tab when you are in the folder properties add the guest user as well. I hope that this may shed some light because it has with me.

Glad you found something, I always wonder what happens to people I see surfing the mvpmcx2 forum for days! I'm sure this will help some people out in correcting things they have turned off out of paranoia of that dreaded "Guest"

There is no requirement to have a telnet service, since telnet isn't use at all during the connection.

Thanks for the reply........In order for the telnet test to work for me I had to start the service.
