Hi Whrulston,

I will probably tomorrow night - I have some overtime to work so I wont get any htpc play time till late Sunday.

I'm sure Flix came in on the qam tuner equipped tv I had borrowed and I do just subscribe to expanded basic and according to the cable co I should get flix along with my networks and pbs stations. When I go to the diagnostic screen on the cable box on a qam encrypted channel I get a note that says QAM256 (or 64, whatever the case is) and then it will say ENC behind it. On the clear channels though it doesn't say anything behind it. Flix shows QAM64 with no ENC behind it just like my networks do, so I think I should be getting it (it also authorizes fast on the cable box, the audio pops on almost instantly but encrypted channels take a second or two).

I hope so as the cable co sent a letter saying they were adding several channels - History, TLC, etc. to the expanded basic tier so I hope those come down in the clear!

TTYL,

Steve

If it doesn't say "ENC" then you should be able to get it. Since you have a cable box and get to the diag screens, that will be a big help. When you post the logs, can you also tell me the frequency reported by the cable box for that channel?

The cable box reports 591.000 mhz, but I believe it's actually on 589.250 mhz (which is digital channel 85?) as it seems my cable box always reports the frequency as being 1.75 mhz higher for some reason.

I'm working a double shift tonight through first shift tomorrow so I'll probably take a nap when I get home and play with this later Sunday night.

Yeah, 591MHz is physical channel 85. Some tuners (Hauppauge and HDHomeRun for example) will automatically add 1.75MHz to the requested tuning to get the center frequency.

Should GBPVR find the channel whether it's encrypted or not? I guess what I'm asking is if GBPVR knows the difference between an encrypted and clear channel and if so does it ignore the encrypted ones and only display the clear ones?

We only have a few digital channels and most are encrypted. I haven't paid attention when it does it's scan. I do know it finds several that just give a blank screen and no audio in the preview screen, but I haven't taken the time to see if the number of channels it finds is the same as the total number of digital channels we have (both encrypted and clear).

It's kind of interesting doing the scans as our cable system seems to be testing some channels as I occasionally pickup the World Fishing Network, a Spanish language channel called Azteca, some outdoors channel I haven't idetified yet, Retro TV Network, and sometimes a movie from what network I don't know. None of those channels are listed on our system and none are available when using a cable co box. Retro is listed as coming later this month, but no word on the others. They are also adding a couple channels to our analog lineup (MyTV and a local Independent) so that gives me a little hope they will continue the analog on our system for a while yet.

Steve

It should find and list all channels, regardless of whether is encrypted or not. Its supposed to show an asterisk next to the unencrypted QAM channels, but I hear that is broken in the current release.

It appears it is as I'm getting asterisks next to all my channels, even the clear ones.

Thats the "broken in the current release" part of my comment.
