Hi All,

I have discovered a weard problem when playing a photo slideshow from a network drive (DNS-323) or USB stick using a MVP. I don't have the same problem on the MVP when playing music from a network drive or USB stick. My system has been stable over months upgrading to the latest GBPVR versions and using multiple MVP's on my network. I don't have the same problem when playing photo's from the internal hard disk drive on the PC where GBPVR is installed and neither do I have the same problem when doing the same thing on that PC using PVRX2. This makes me conclude that there is a problem in timing or buffering when using the photo slideshow functionallity in combination with an external storage device using the MVP over a network.

The acual problem is that when I select the folder where the photos are stored I can see all the files and when starting the slideshow the first photo / picture is displayed perfectly but when the MVP wants to display the second photo it restarts time after time. First photo OK and the rebooting.

I've tried a lot of things by playing with buffers, reinstalling GBPVR from scratch on a new XP installation with all possible services I don't need being disabled, like the firewall and others, but the problem remains. The funny thing is that the problem is reproducable when using an USB stick. Putting the photos on the USB stick resets the MVP when it tries to load the second picture in the slideshow. I have a Gigabit network which is very stable.

Anyone an idea how to solve this.

I've been doing some more testing on different PC's using the same setup and encountered the same problem on all PC's. Using a MVP together with an external storage device selecting photo slideshow from the MVP seems to reset the MVP when it loads the second picture to be displayed during the slideshow.

I'm not sure if SUB is triggered by this thread but I wonder if this a GBPVR or MVP related problem and would sincerely appreciate confirmation whether I'm the only person having this problem or if other users experience the same issues.

PS: The problem can easily be reproduced by using an USB stick containing the pictures to be displayed during the photo slideshow on the MVP but if you have a network storage device you'll encounter the same issues (I've tried it from a Packard Bell Netstore 3500 and a DLink DNS-323).

Cheers.

Hi Sub,

this was quick. I was editing my message and voila you were there Big Grin
I've just repeated the test and zipped all the logs into a zip file (see attachment).

Thanks in advance for looking into this and hopefully you can give me some advice what to do next.

Ciao.

What is 'Er is een generieke fout opgetreden in GDI+' in english? It sounds like .net doesnt like something about the image file you're feeding it.

The translation says "There has been a generic fault occuring in GDI+".

Sorry for the Dutch error messages. I didn't know you get that type of information in all local languages. Must be a hell to understand but on the other hand by now you probably speak 20 languages on top of your computer programmng master skills.:p

I've attached picture 1 & 2 I used during the slideshow, maybe it helps.

You forgot to attach those pictures.

Ignoring the MVP, can you view those same files on your PC?

Sub,

I think I've found the problem.

It's in my picture PICT0127.JPG. When the slideshow comes to this picture the MVP resets. Trying the same on the PC the PVRX2 jumps back to the picture list and then continues with the next picture in the slideshow.

When I look at the pictures one by one via rhe MVP, not using the functionality slideshow, the MVP can not display picture PICT0127.JPG but neither does it resets as when using slideshow.

I didn't know this could happen as PICT0127.JPG shows up on the PC in miniature view but when trying to open it with some Photo program I've got a message "Can not build picture".

So yes there is something wrong with that specific image but I didn't know this could reset a MVP. I did some testing on other picture folders running from my NAS and they all seem to display fine in slideshow via the MVP.

Sorry to botter you with such a stupid thing but if you want to investigate why the MVP resets I've attached the problem picture in a splitted RAR archive (picture is to big to upload in 1 file > 2.3Mb).

Lucky me the PC does not RESET compared to the MVP during slideshow ... :o

Thanks again for the great TIP. I now need to go and verify all my pictures, just to make sure

You're a fantastic guy ! Cool
