Playing files with extension .M2V(Mpeg-2)

I read in the MediaMVP documentation that it plays Mpeg-2 files. I ripped a dvd and then the VOB files. Now I have a bunch of files with extension .M2V(mpeg-2) but MediaMVP does not see them as video files. Is this correct or is there something I dont understand?
I will appreciate your clarification on this

Thats just the video, you need to find the ac3 sound and covert to mp2, multiplex toether to create a mpg.
