Recording with skips

Lately I've noticed that sometimes I'm getting recordings that include skips or glitches. In other words, I'll be watching along and suddenly the video will seem to fast-forward for a second or two. This will typically happen every 10-15 seconds or so. It doesn't happen all the time-- sometimes shows record perfectly fine with no skips-- other times I get recordings with the skipping. I'm pretty sure the problem is in the recording (as opposed to playback) because upon playback it always skips in exactly the same place. Also, viewing the file in WMP also skips in the same place.

I'm running the latest version with the Hauppage two-channel card (I forget the model number off hand). Win XP Home. Not sure what other system info may be relevant.

Any idea what might be causing this?

you're suffering from what is called a timestamp problem. It was a very common problem with the Hauppage pvr-150 single analogue tuner.

Try searching the forum to see what comes up and report back with the exact model of the tuner that you are using.

also make sure you have a good aerial and not a piece of wet string dangling from the curtain rail.

I get the same problem with a Hauppauge PVR250, recording over s-video from a DirectTV box.
And I have also noted it happening more lately.
WinXP home, SP3

Haven't found a solution, or any consistent cause, so far.

this was the main thread related to timestamp problems with the hauppague pvr-150. I am not sure if it related to you problem though.

I think that the gist of the thread is to ensure that you get the latest drivers from the hauppague site, don't just use the drivers that came on the cd (a mantra that applies to all hardware)

Thanks for the help.

I went to the Hauppauge site, and had difficulty finding the right drivers. When I click on the PVR500 link, it takes me to a page that looks like it's drivers for Windows Media Center. I have XP Home.

Here's the link to the page in question:

http://www.hauppauge.com/site/support/support_mce.html

Can anyone confirm what drivers I'm supposed to download for the PVR500?

Is it the timestamp problem though? I've not suffered it (mainly and NTSC problem ???) but I thought it caused problems skipping forwards and backwards rather than skipping while recording.

The only skipping that got recorded for me was when my disk driver dropped to the default PIO transfer mode and it couldn't keep up with two simultaneous recordings.

I'm experiencing similar problems - random skipping with some shows but not others. This is happening with the Hauppage 1600, latest drivers from the website. I was told previously "upgrade to the newest version of GB-PVR", which I did but am still experiencing this problem. Quite often this problem occurs toward the beginning of a show, rather than later.

Any suggestions?

I am also having this problem since upgrading to the latest gbpvr and changing my mux from ATI to TS. This is happening with a HDHomeRun so I don't think it is the pvr-150 time stamp problem. I have same issues as the original poster, happens sometimes but not all the time. 1 second glitches tend to happen for about 15-30 sec then the recording tends to be fine. Doesn't really effect the playback too much just enough to be a little annoying.
