Hi guys,

I'm setting up a new HTPC using the following :

Vista Home Premium 32 SP1
Gigabyte GA-MA78GPM-UD2H (780g chip witn HD3200 ATI video)
PowerDVD 9 Ultra
Hauppauge Nova-T 500

Now i've installed Vista, put in chip and video drivers for MB. Installed SP1. Installed nova-t drivers (but not powercinema that came bundled with nova card) and powerDVD9 Ultra. Installed GBPVR (latest version). When in GBPVR config I cannot select cyberlink codecs for h.264 or AAC3 etc as the only option showing is system default. I can however select cyberlink codec for Mpeg2 decoder. I have enabled hardware acceleration in powerdvd9.

I have in the past tried powercimema that came with the hauppauge card but could not find any where to turn on hardware acceleration. I could however select the cyberlink codecs for the h.264 decoder in gbpvr config but as always I only ever got a blank black screen watching live TV.

I've rebuilt this system multiple times and no matter what cannot get any picture on freeview HD channels nor the SD channels. I can scan for them and pick up the guide but when viewing liveTV in GBPVR I just get a blank screen.

I've not installed any other codecs as im unsure what else I need. Anyone offer any advice here?

You'll probably need to add the PowerDVD9 decoder names to the <SupportedH264Decoders> setting in the config.xml. Let me know their names and I'll add them to the master files.

It won't work Sub.
As of this version and a prior update to PowerDVD8 as well the H264 directshow filters are locked to the PowerDVD app itself. Why Cyberlink choose to do it is beyond me but it's caused quite a fuss on their forums.

I know they do that with their audio decoders, but I'm not sure they do with their video decoder. I know they did change the audio pin format, which can cause some apps to not connect correctly anymore though.

So options are install an early version of PowerDVD8? Or use something else? And if something else any recommendations?

I'd try adding the decoder name to <SupportedH264Decoders> first.

Ok i did that last night adding the PDV9 entries and still could not select the Cyberlink codecs in the h.264 decoder field.

Resorted to removing powerdvd9 and installing powerdvd8. I can now select cyberlink in the h.264 decoder field and can actually view channels, on 1 tuner only.

New issue : the detectdeviceid application does not list any devices. the log file for this complains it cannot find wintv pvr150. Im using a Nova-t 500 on vista 32 sp1. Any ideas, since I cannot find out what vista is calling each tuner and hence cannot get the second tuner working in the config app.

Apparently, PDVD9 Ultra disables the use of the decoders in third party apps. The lesser versions (Standard and Deluxe) do not. Many people have tried to get them working but no one has succeeded yet. I personally haven't purchased it to try.
