Now that I have solved my homegrown mistake that was stopping timeshift mode every five minutes, I am still having some problems.

Many times, timeshift mode behaves as expected: in other words, it pauses briefly between scheduled programs to begin recording, then playing, a new file.

Many times, however, the player has simply stopped when it reaches the scheduled end of a show. A file for the next show does not appear in the LiveTV directory. This happens sporadically; sometimes on the first change of program, but other times after three or four have swapped successfully, the next one will stop. This always puts my system out of the player and into the main menu.

My system is recording now, so I will have to post a log later. It takes a long time to reproduce this problem; I am hoping someone might know a solution without examining logs.

I got lucky. Here is an example, with screenshots and logs, of the player stopping at the end of a show while timeshifting. Returns to the main menu.

I've only mux I've tested with timeshift in a long time is the TS Mux. Maybe give that a go.

I'd really like to switch back to .ts to get multirecord, but I've got serious problems with comskip when I use .ts. Are there many users using comskip with .ts or are my comskip/ts problems specific to the channels I happen to watch?

TS Mux or "Full TS"?

Seems to me it caused me a problem, but I can't really remember. I will try in the next few days; thanks.

"TS Mux".

Dont use "Full TS". Thats only for collecting debug files.

I gave up on TS Mux and went back to using dvr-ms due to the commercial breaks being off with comskip.

I'm not a Comskip user, so TS Mux shouldn't cause that problem. I tested it last night through four show transitions, and it behaved as expected; about a 2-second pause, then on with the next segment. It's hard to be sure, but it looks like "so far so good" (except possibly for DVR-MS users). Thanks for the suggestion.

Now back to getting Live Preview to work...

I'm a long-time DVR-MS user and have never seen this problem, but I usually just record a show, rather than timeshift it. When I timeshifted on my TiVo, I'd occasionally change channels during a commercial (forgetting I was in TS mode) and it would lose all the unwatched future timeshifted video. There was no way to recover from that.

I haven't actually tried it in GBPVR - what happens when you try to change channels during timeshift mode in GBPVR?

The file that the player is watching is closed and becomes deletable. A new file is created, matching the name and time code of the program in the new timeslot. The player watches for that file, and begins playing it as soon as it is available.

The previous file remains in the Live TV folder for a few minutes--I haven't timed exactly how long--then is automatically deleted by GBPVR. I suppose that a human could copy it somewhere else during that window of opportunity, but otherwise the timeshifted material would be lost.

By the way, similar comments apply to timeshifting the SAME channel when it reaches a show break in the EPG. A file is created for the new show/timeslot, and the timeshifting file for the old one is finished up and ultimately deleted.
