I'm now recording everything as dvr-ms files via a hauppauge 1600 card. I can't get the transcoding working quite yet but I've got a big enough drive in there that it isn't really an issue.

The main problem I'm having is that on some shows it will randomly stop playing in the middle. It's not paused as I can hit play and it will do nothing. If I hit the FF then it will continue playing. I imagine it's some spot in the file that can't be interpreted and is tripping up the playback codec? It seems like it would just skip to where it could continue playing though.

The other small issue is weird. If I go to live tv via the guide or directly via the remote button, the first channel doesn't tune and is just black with no sound. If I go up a channel then back it tunes in just fine. Not a huge deal, especially since we rarely watch anything live but annoying still.

Thanks!

I have noticed that my HD recordings will sometimes trip up like that simply because of the sheer size of the recording and the rate the hard drive has to feed data. It usually happens when something else is heavily using the hard drive at the same time, like comskip, or if 1 or 2 HD recordings are going on while I'm watching a previously recorded show.
What's a good solution for this? I'm not sure yet. I'd like to set it up so that completed and comskip'ed recordings are on a secondary drive, while in progress recordings/commercial detection, are happening on the main drive so they don't interfere with playback.
This isn't natively supported, and I don't want to add disk traffic of copying back and forth while I'm trying to watch a show.
I'm thinking of writing a perl script, or something, to do a nightly copy of completed shows to a secondary drive, then delete the recording on the main drive and make a link to the new location. Haven't had time to try it though.
I guess a simpler solution would be to just set up a RAID array to have more disk bandwidth. This HD transition is really taxing my old IDE hard drive.

I have this happen ocassionally with my HVr2250 and don't know why but as it works with the up then down channel 'fix', I've not worried about it. I just thought is was a 'me' thing.
