My second card in a sony gigabyte, which is software encoded. The only thing I can do with it in GBPVR is use the Svideo in and audio in from my cable set top box and set the capture source accordingly. Amazingly, I have very satisfying results.
Gigabyte GA-EP45-UD3R, Win8, Core 2 Duo E8400 3.0GHz, 6 GB (2GBx2, 1GBx2) DDR2 800, GIGABYTE GV-N220OC-1GI Video, CM Real Power Pro 550 Watt PS, HVR-2250 & HVR-1600 analog/Clear QAM, Realtek S/PDIF, Harmony 880 in MCE remote mode w/ Gestion LM Remote Keymap.
NPVR 2.5.9 (SAF6) Cyberlink video & LAV/ffdshow Audio Filters. Skin=Default Horizontal
Plugins: Weather
External Apps: XBMC, Hulu, Boxee, Winamp
Utilities:Comskip

You think that suggestion above would work?

I'd really like to use it, GB that is. I like the guide better, I like the other features. I'd hate to buy another card right now (this DVR/NAS box was on a budget). I moved it to a higher PCI slot and now every channel comes in perfect, or close to, and havent even started tuning.

The biggest flaw with the stock PVR software is it does not eliminate commercials.

I dont know. You can give it a go and see. I've never used it though, so cant provide you any help if it doesnt work.

Are there any "suggestions" on what card to use? Would like to spend around $75 - $100. And if that gets me even better picture, so be it. I have seen people post screen shots of their cards and they look clearer, but for $20 and on a computer monitor, this looks pretty good.

Worse comes to worse, I just use this card and don't get to use GB-PVR.

I recommend looking at the Hauppauge cards (most widely used and best supported). Vistaview Sabers are also a good choice.
