A Spotify plugin would be awesome!

Havn't had chance to work on it recently. It's nearly there but I've found that the playback of tracks to be unreliable. I would like to use the libspotify API so the plugin can directly play tracks (currently it uses an instance of the Spotify desktop application) but it's a sod to work with.

Agree that it would be nice to play Spotify directly with the API.

I will soon have a (beta) Spotify plugin which uses the Spotify API to handle the playback. It avoids all the problems with running the Spotify player in the background but does require a Spotify Premium account.

Does your improved solution also handles user created playlists or are you still bound to complete albums?

Using the API will allow for playlists, but they're not supported as yet.
