Ok I guess I am in the minority since I don't have spare Windows licenses around. My wife definitely would not let the older cases into the media room.

What about the $5 video card? There aren't many of those around that do 1080p nicely so if you have a spare one I'll take it off your hands.

Our systems must be running too good if we have this much time to debate this dry subject. I loved the MVP so I totally agree with Martin on the elegance of an extender solution. But to sit directly on the fence, I also beleive that many have enough parts laying around to do HD for a budget price, legally, even if you have to buy a new license. It might take a few weeks for the deals to come up, but it can be done.

I have a PCH and PC clients.
Both have their good and bad sides.
I wouldn't dream of a PC in the lounge to watch TV, the PCH is invisible almost and does everything I could ever want it to do.

I have an old IBM netvista, bought surplus for £40 with an XP COA that sits in the garage with an old £20 17" LCD and does what I want it to do in there (HD would be nice but suitable low height AGP cards don't seem to be around).

different strokes for different folks I guess.
