Have you tried the trial of PDVD8 (if you can find it kicking about)? I have no problems with it playing 1080i from UK broadcasts but I did have to improve my graphics hardware. Also using EVR but on Vista x64. Just occasionally it does go crappy and juddery, but either a channel change and back or sometimes a restart of pvrx2 solves that. The rare stuttering is less annoying than poor deinterlacing on sports pans for me (plus working ff/rw) but a perfect H264 decoder is still a holy grail I've not quite found. 90% of the time the PDVD8 codec is perfect for me.

The EVR renderer doesn't seem to work on XP SP3 setup. How did you get it going?

How did you get EVR going in XP? I didn't think that was possible.

EVR.dll is installed as part of the dot net platform
dot net 3.5 installs and registers it as an (extended) video renderer and it can be used in GBpvr.
But note that Microsoft has redacted video hardware acceleration (DXVA1&2) on XP with EVR.
So it's software decoding only with EVR with XP, however EVR is a smoother improved video render path compared to the previous VMR.

Yeah, it really is a superb quality picture. No tearing, and doesn't seem to get the stutters when you are jumping around in a file.

Almost makes me want to install Vista so I can have that + DXVA - cause my dual core cpu i getting up to 95 / 97 percent when decoding some of my 1080p bluray stuff.

I guess I go straight to Win7.
