Anyone have some good recommendations for setting up my network in the optimal way for GBPVR? What I want to do is setup a client PC to watch recordings from my main GBPVR machine in another room. I tried just doing a quick setup and watching a recording, but I don't think my network could handle it as I only got snippets of show...

I want to watch HD
I currently have a mixed (b/g) wireless network with an admittedly crappy d-link router
Is wired the only way to go - or has anyone had success with a wireless solution?

Any input would be great - thanks all.

People do seem to have problems with wireless. I have 100mbps wired round the house and HD (h.264) is no problem with NMT or PC clients.
I have one remote client but it is not HD capable (slow cpu/poor video) and it runs with a 200mbps ethernet over powerline setup and seems fine.

I started off by using wireless to a laptop and a PC with no success (b/g). I now use powerline ethernet adapters (200mbps) to stream TV around the house. HDTV and movies play with no problems... however performance of the network is very much dependent upon the quality of the electrical cabling in your home and the devices you have plugged into it (e.g. an electrically noisy motor on an old fridge, or loose wiring on the back of any mains socket could have an impact on speed)

If I wasn't renting this place I would get a box of cat5e/6 cable and wire the place properly.. It would have been cheaper, faster and less of a risk than the powerline adapters. The risk being that you won't know they'll work with GBPVR until you buy and try them.
