I was cleaning up my basement computer area yesterday, and found a Creative DXR2 DVD decoder card. It is PCI with VGA in and out, plus digital audio out, and svideo out.
http://www2.skolor.pedc.se/augustenborg/.../extra.htm

Is this of any use in GBPVR? It's specs are 100mhz Pentium needed for DVD playback. It is a hardware mpeg 1 and mpeg2 decoder. I assume I can use it in a machine to playback the mpg files that GBPVR made, but I haven't tried it out yet.

I also found a ATI RageII PCI card with TV out. I might stick that in a machine for playback/testing.
3x MVPs (not used anymore)

Hauppauge 150 via SVideo
Comcast Digital Cable
Motorola HD Cable box channel changed via Firewire
Vista Home Premium with RDP hack
AMD Athalon 64 5000+
340gig sata, plus 80SATA+3x160IDE Drives in XP machine for storage.

I have the same card that i found kicking around, i installed it and gave it a try, i was sort of hoping it would show up in the playback settings when i installed the driver.

There is no XP driver for this card. Only win 2000, which seemd to install fine.

Does anyone else have any information on the dxr2 harware decoder card? Any hacks to make this thing work?

Sorry, this isnt of any use. It predates the days of directshow decoders.

This is the "Creative" equivalent of the Hollywood Plus card. There are actually directshow drivers for it but usually not worth the effort. (sashHplus, a combination of Netstream and H+ drivers) The native MCI interface can open files while they are still being recorded but the directshow filters cannot. The MCI filters have a 4Gb limit on files it can open and a 2Gb limit on navigation (files will open, play, pause but not FF or RW.)

The player application is called DVD Station, in case you didn't install it yet. It is a DVD and mpeg hardware decoder with excellent TV output. (composite, S-Video, and even Component with the right connector, which can be built from available DIN plugs) A serial IR remote can be found for about $6 to add remote control capability. Girder has/had built in support for it also.

It's TV output is better than any video card's S-Video output but it's PC monitor image is noticeably inferior. I've got 4 Hollywood cards in use and one spare. Sigma Designs http://www.sigmadesigns.com/cgi-bin/dcforum/dcboard.cgi just made a decision to put their efforts and support into set-top-boxes and refused to develop the software or hardware and would not allow much third party development. An alternative player is called Eugene's DVD Player. It allows removal of Macrovision and region coding so the image can be upscaled past 480 if desired and can activate the Component output feature.
