Hi, i notice the Hauppauge HC PVR is 1080i only, has anyone made a true HD with a HDMI connector so analogue to digital sampling isn’t needed?
Many Thanks
Ashley

The Black Magic Intensity or Intensity Pro but it has two problems:

  1. You can't record from an HDCP protected source.
  2. The video coming through HDMI is raw and you need to compress it on the fly with a software encoder or have massively fast, large drives.

not many sources have true HD output anyways..all broadcast is 1080i max...
[some cable cos have a *few* things in 1080p, but they don't look like a true 1080p to me, maybe some conversion is done on their end, probably compression]

I was more thinking the HDMI input as this is digital so you are not doing digital to analogue then back to digital, however i do understand this means there’s no encryption problems...

Remember if bit perfect capture was used you would be capturing raw digital video and not the mpeg source so the source raw files would be huge. NTSC 601 YUV SD is about 100 Mbs

I was more thinking from HDMI then to a hardware MPEG encoder, so the same as the HD PVR but also having a HDMI input not just the componants.
Many Thanks
