I've been GBPVR for years now, but only for recording purposes.

There is one functionality I've been missing, and that is that I would like to record a whole season of a tv-show, and the problem is that the name of the show changes slightly from week to week. The main portion of the title remains the same, but the episode name is attached at the end, and therefore I have to program the recording every week.

Is there any new functionality in the later versions that can handle this?

When I need is to specify the part of the name that remains constant throughout the season, and that all programs with names that contain this text is then recorded.

I'm mainly using the web interface for recording, it is possible to make such a function available there?

I installed the last version of GBPVR in 2008, and I haven't bothered upgrading because it works so wellSmile. I will however consider upgrading if this functionality is available in one of the later releases.

EWA's auto search/record might what you need: http://gbpvr.com/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Utili...uto-search

It's been around since build 68 (Nov 2007) according to the change log: http://gbpvr.com/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Enhan...AChangeLog

Yes - this does indeed solve my problem. I've tested it (except for the actual recording), and now the shows turn up in the EPG marked to be recorded.

It seems to work great, although it would be an improvement if it was possible to setup such a search via the regular "Record" functionality (by clicking in the EPG) and then remove the episode portion of the name of the program or something similar to that.

But, hey, my problem is solved!

Thanks!

i think you can use the search facility in normal gui to search for the shows and record them from there..
[you can enter freeform text into search query with keyboard]

that way you could search for partial title...Smile

By "normal gui" you mean it cannot be done via EWA? In my ideal world Big Grin I would like go click on a show in EPG (to record it), and then being able to edit the program name (remove episode part of the text), and then click record.

In that way you can handle recording the the same way (same user procedure) as you do today, and I would not have to teach my wife yet another procedure for recording shows.... Wink

It's just a suggestion... I can live with the solution already provided...

When you talk about removing the episode number, could it be something like this:
http://forums.nextpvr.com/showthread.php?t=43984 ?

How do you get your EPG? external xml file? I ended up writing a parser for my specific needs. My string search patterns are somewhat hard-coded, and heavily dependent on the consistency of the text patterns (like mine are), so I probably could get you a working version, but I would advise against it unless your epg data always uses the same scheme.

(EDIT: I wrote it in Visual Basic (Express 2008); if anyone wants to take a look at the source code, feel free to ask. Wink)

Universal episode parsing would be troublesome, period. Anyway, in a really ideal world your epg would never have that info (season/episode) in the programme title. It would comply with the xmltv formatting standart and put in it the episode number tag, or at the very least as part of the subtitle.

XRECORD allows you to record based on keywords. If you are using GBPVR as a standalone media center and dont want to use a web interface to setup recordings then this is a good alternative to EWA. I am hoping that Sub will include record by keyword as part of the basic record functionality in a future release. Its a common feature on other PVRs.

I am using the attached python script which I start from PostUpdateEPG.bat. The standard GBPVR interface can be used for scheduling.

It schedules the shows on the basis of a partial match. Backup the database before you start experimenting with it since it directly modifies the database.

Here is an excerpt from PostUpdateEPG.bat:

python ".\Third Party\fixschedule.py" > %logfile%
PVRX2.exe -reloadschedule 2>&1 >> %logfile%

Of course python needs to be installed and included in the PATH.
