I'd like to report some problems with NPVR 1.5.31:

1. DVD playback - with some DVDs I can't access DVD menu with mouse or keyboard, the only functional key is Esc, so I can't play some DVD with NPVR ( for example initial menu with language selection )

2. TV aspect ratio - this problem is also in another thread.
Monitor: 1366x768 16:9
TV: analog , 4:3
Tuner: Hauppauge HVR-2200
When I select FILL mode, black rectangles stays at the top and bottom of screen
When I select Remove Letterbox mode, whole picture is moved to the top of screen and at the bottom of screen is big green rectantle

3. FM tuner with Hauppauge hvr-2200
Time-to time ( for example once a 5-15 seconds ) playing stops for about 0,1 - 0,3 seconds and then continues . Something like when I listen to internet stream radio with slow internet.
Maybe it is related to signal quality, because of stations with worse signal do it more significantly, than stations with better signal. But the problem is present also on radio stations with very good signal.
tested computer: AMD Athlon X2 235e , 4GB ram, Windows XP SP3

4. Channel list
Is it functional ? ILive tv -> right click -> channels
Nothing is done ...

5. Live preview mode & TV buffer settings
Will be this functionality present also with NPVR ? It is very usefull when watching TV signal through external set-top-box and connection between STB and PC is only through Composite cable.
Timeshift causes, when user changes channel on STB , he can see it at screen of PVR soft several seconds later ...
Also some settings about TV buffer would be nice ( max and min size of TV buffer, LiveTV pre-delay time )

1. Try a different decoder. Some decoders are known to break DVD menu navigation, or at least make the highlight invisible; in many cases you can play the disk, you just have to do the selections blind. On my system the Microsoft DTV-DVD Video Decoder works fine, but the ATI MPEG Decoder doesn't.

2. Use the EVR renderer. This is a known video driver bug with VMR9, and is not an NPVR bug. It used to be an NVidia only bug, but now happens to ATI users as well.

3. I have no info on that one.... none of my tuners can do FM. I haven't seen anyone else mention this. I suspect it's your signal, but maybe try a diffent audio decoder?

4. Yes, it doesn't do anything. Never has, no idea if it ever will.

5. Sub has indicated there will be no Preview Mode. LiveTV is always in Timeshift mode, and always will be. There is also no pre-delay; NPVR uses shared memory to pipe the tv stream to the display and to the timeshift file simultaneously. The only delay is the delay introduced by the decoders and renderer.... it's already as close to live as it can possibly be.
You can change the timeshift buffer time; see post #3 of the NPVR sticky linked in my sig below.

Hi, thank you for your replies.

I tried to install Windows7 and problems 1,2,3 are not present in this operating system.

In Windows XP:
1. may be, with other decoders behavior of DVD navigation changed, but I didn't find the right DVD decoder, with which would be DVDnavigation & playback correct ( I tried also SAF5 decoders). As I know, Microsoft DTV-DVD Video Decoder is present only in Win7 . I don't know, whether is it possible to import it also to WinXP ( ? ) .
2. I use EVR render . With VMR9, VMR7 or Overlay was the behavior of Aspect ratio much more stranger :-) . I use ATI radeon HD4200 graphic card integrated on motherboard. When I updated ATI drivers, green rectangle disappeared, but the TV picture was still at the top of screen and the bottom of screen was ... I would say "damaged" :-) .
This problem is probably only in Win XP . Try it if you can.
3. I don't know exactly what is the problem in . In Win7 this problem is not present, so I will probably use this OS .
4. Channel list would by very usefull thing ...
5. I have to admit, that delay of signal in GBPVR is much less comparing to another software using Timeshift ( for example mediaportal) . Real delay is about 1-2 seconds, which is probably acceptable ...

1) Using EVR on WinXP is simply bad. EVR is MediaFoundation renderer for Vista/Win7,which was ported to DirectShow and it have only limited support under XP (you cannot use DXVA2 rederer on DXVA1 OS). Use VMR on WinXP. And no, it is not possible to inport Win7 decoders to XP. Smile
2) can you post some screenshots of damaged picture? (SAF5 installed)

evr is the only decent option for npvr in xp right now...despite not having full decode accell, it does look same with dxva deinterlacing only, and aspect ratios are livable..
all cards xp + vmr + dxva show aspect weirdness...not really usable..

try mpc-hc's standalone mpeg2 video decoder to fix dvd issues..[check interlaced output, and uncheck planar modes]

buffer lag in npvr is exactly as fast as gbpvr until you hit pause in either..
i played same channel on both at same time and they were in perfect sync..

Thank a lot.

1) I have not solved yet, but the true is, that I have not spent much time on this issue

2) Ooou, thank you, hoborg . I tried it once again. With right combination of decoders ( using SAF5 ) there is no problem with aspect ratio in WinXP.

3) This problem is the same, as described in
http://forums.gbpvr.com//showthread.php?...VR-is-fine

In fact, it has nothing to do with signal quality ( it was just feeling from a short listening ) and the issue is present also when watching TV, not only listen to FM radio.
This issue is also present in Win7 as in WinXP.
But with right combination of Audio decoders and with disabled AC3 decoder, audio is OK .
