This is a separate problem from the other I had, so I'm creating a separate thread.

Due to a problem with the timestamp issue that I was having with Hauppauge PVR-500 tuners, I applied the fixes in the wiki page here:

http://gbpvr.com/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/T...tampIssue#toc4

The fixes included upgrading the driver to the beta example given and a reg fix.

The good news is that the timestamp problem appears to be fixed. The bad news is that every recorded show now has close-caption sub-titles. I would appreciate any information on how to fix this. It's very annoying.

Do you mean that you see subtitles in GBPVR? If so, check if you have 'show closed captions' ticked on the Misc tab in the config app.

or just that you can see the subtitles are included in the file?

I see the closed-caption text in the video when played. Sometimes at the bottom, sometimes in the middle. "Show closed captions" option not checked in config.

Closed-captioning occurred in two recordings - Cold Case and Bones - but not in recorded news shows, like O'Reilly. I guess that's typical, but I don't know.

If you see these closed captions in all players (ie its part of the picture not just data within the recording), then it sounds to me you're recording from a set top box and someone bumped the closed captions button on the STB, so the captions were part of the picture being sent to the capture device.

If you're not recording from a set top box, play the recording with captions and post the pvrx2.exe-native.log and I'll take a look.

No set top box. Don't see them in VLC unless I turn it on. I'm using ffdshow decoder for video rendering in GBPVR, so I checked the config on that, and subtitles were turned on. How it got flipped to on just by installing a new tuner card driver, I don't know, but I turned it off, and that fixed the problem. Thanks.

Ok, great. Glad you found the cause.

cool, hadn't noticed ffdshow had closed captions on subtitle tab now...
was hard to find a good cc decoder that wasn't old...

ffdshow has hotkeys so you may have just hit one of those...Smile
[hotkeys are nice way to turn this feature on/off at will..]
