Next PVR is working ok on a dedicated spare computer so the next step was to setup a client on another spare computer. I had to first move the NPVR data directory to somewhere XP would allow to be shared. The EPG works and can add and delete schedules on the server. I can watch live TV and play back recordings but only for around five minutes before it locks up. Changing channel seems to be a good way to stop it working after several changes. Under Task Manager Next PVR is listed as “Not Responding”. No clue in the log as everything just stops.

Have you applied the patches in the survival tread on both the client and the server? there were (for me at least) some big improvements in client performance in those. If you have then the first thing that someone will ask is to post your logs.
Wired or wifi?

My XP Client problem seems at least partly due to Windows Update not installing .NET after a new install of Windows then after I manually installed .NET3.0 taking another two days to install all the updates. The Client seemed more stable after all the .NET updates were installed. However being ill in bed for several days gave me chance to connect the client to the bedroom TV to watch recorded programmes. It locked up around every two hours which is far better than it was but as before no hint in the logs as they just stop.

As a comparison I installed NextPVR on my old portable but that never ran for more than five minutes before locking up. It was running at 100% most of the time but the picture and sound were ok while it was running. The NextPVR “Settings” kept displaying a message in red saying DirectX was not installed but I installed the runtime twice and dxdiag confirmed DirectX 9c was installed.
