I need a colour laser for the business. I don't really do much printing maybe 30 sheets a week. Quality wise all it really prints off is word documents/excel spreadsheets with the company coloured logo on it.

Ideally I would prefer one that prints double sided but that may well be outside my price range.

Anyone got any recommendations for a suitable make and model

I can't answer your question specifically but if you only print 30 sheets a week I wonder if you really need a laser printer.

I have a canon iP4500 inkjet that can print fantastic photos, print on cds and print double sided (and booklet format) and it cost something like £80. I would image that it could print out 30 pages a week for quite a while without problem. That is only 6 pages a day mon-fri which is nothing. ok if you need 30 pages in 5 mins a laser might be the way to go but otherwise I am not so sure.

laser printers usually end up needing new parts such as fuser assemblies and these can be be quite expensive. The saving in costs per page of laser vs inkjet only really come into their own at higher volumes than you are talking about (unless perhaps every page is going to be chock full of colour)

We have used a B/W HP Laserjet (5MP) for our home business printer for over ten years. It prints 4,000 pages per toner cartridge (around $40). Last year we were having some problems with it, so I bought and installed a "consumables" kit ($100), which is the only repair we have ever performed.... and it turned out to be a problem with the toner cartridge! We've been through 4 toner cartridges so maybe ~15K pages. On the rare occasion we really do need a color print, we use our cheapo HP inkjet (whose cartridges are always clogging, from lack of use).... fyi.

If you're talking the low-end color lasers, most of the value is in the toner that comes with them. used ones presumably come with no toner (because that's what people do - buy a color laser printer on sale, use up the toner and then dump it on ebay), and by the time you buy a full set of toner cartridges you'll have exceeded the cost of a new printer.

I have a Samsung CLP-315 I bought on sale a year or so ago for $79. I don't print too much color, so I'm still on the original color toners. I've used up the black toner, and replaced it for about $35 or so. If/when I use up the color toners, I'll consider just tossing the printer and buy a new one on sale with fresh toner. Or maybe I'll find a sucker on ebay to sell it to Wink

(yes, I do know that most printers come with reduced capacity 'starter' toner cartridges - even then, the included toner was worth at least the $79 I paid for the printer)

of course this may not apply if you can't wait for a good sale or decide you want a particular brand and model

I got fed up of inkjets bunging up with my intermittent use and got one of the below. Still running on the fitted toners and I got a couple of spare black ones from ebay.

If all you need to print is monochrome with the company colored logo, would it make sense to get a monochrome laser & get 5 or 10 thousand pages with your letterhead pre-printed? I have no idea of the prices, but it might be worth looking into.
