I am seeing occasional issues where my system fails to resume from hibernate. I will work out why one day but in the meantime I have found a useful hotfix that provides some additional robustness. I thought other NPVR users might like it too.

When the system fails to resume from hibernate Windows will wait for manual intervention asking whether you would like to retry or delete the hibernate file and restart. The system will not start recording again until you manually select one of these options to restart the system. There is no timeout.

This generally means I lose recordings for a day or two. If we are on holiday it could mean losing a couple of weeks.

Hotfix 2519400 adds a timer to the window resume loader that will force the system to restart rather than wait for manual intervention.

Probably usful for some. I'v long since given up the sleep/hibernate problematics and run my computers 24/7.

I personally never use hibernate but I use sleep every day on 2 systems. I'd first make sure you have the latest BIOS for your system.
There is a nice tool I don't use by many others do, called MCE Standby that you might want to check out.

those resume issues are typically a result of either driver issues or hard drive problems...solve those and it will probably act right for you..

Thanks folks. Its been working well for a long time but just recently sleep stopped working altogether and I moved to hibernate and that has been occasionally flaky.

Bios is up to date. Updating to Catalyst 11.5 made it worse. Diskcheckup and Event Viewer doesnt show any disk issues. I will update all other drivers in the next few days and see how that goes. I susoect an incompatability with a Windows 7 Update / Service Pack 1.

Anyhow this looked like a useful robustness update for those that use hibernate. I would guess that MS will add this to the standard recovery timers eventually.

XJW,

mine sometimes doesn't resume either. Unfortunately, it doesn't show anything on my TV so I have no idea what's wrong. Can you tell me what you see on the screen and what to input to continue? Is it just "enter", a number or something else? Next time I see this I want to try just to make sure it's the same problem.

Thanks.

Edit:

I'm runnning XP...maybe it's not applicable.

Jam
It shows 2 options
- Retry resume
- Restart
As I recall if you hit enter it will retry. Down arrow then enter should restart.
