TBH I am surprised it is a problem. I have enough trouble finding one worthwhile show to watch or record at a time - I have never had my tuners being overloaded.
It must be a long time since I missed anything due to chopped post/pre-padding other than an over-running sports event which ran over my generous 1 hour post padding.

So is there any explanation for the problem originall described?

As I stated in my post a few back, things are MUCH improved in 2.1.5. However, I still have some instances where padding isn't honored when it could have been with the available tuners.

The problem (for me) seems to happen when there are multiple, back-to-back recurring recordings scheduled on different channels. As I understand the situation, when a recording is scheduled, npvr "tentatively" assigns the recording to a specific tuner. (And I THINK that it does this initial assignment based upon only the required recording times for all shows--i.e. ignoring all padding requests. And, with my recordings, it tends to alternate tuners between channels rather than reusing the same tuner for the same channel.) However with the recent logic changes, when the recording service actually goes to begin a recording, if there is a padding conflict, it will look to see if there is an alternative tuner available to which it can "move" the new recording. In my experience, most of the time now, it seems to be working OK. However, sometimes it gives the message about being unable to move the recording even though there is a completely unused tuner. I don't exactly know why, but according to sub:
sub Wrote:That is going to happen from time to time (due to various factors like order, future events, etc), but it should be quite a bit better at it than before. I will try to improve things further when I get I'm working in those areas though. (its going to be one big messy hard to maintain bit of code if I try to cover all scenarios though)

I vary rarely watch live tv, so I don't have experience in how that would affect npvr's current tuner usage logic. I'm sure that it complicates it significantly.
