I searched the forums and can't find a answer so here goes: I often record races and ball games and add post padding for 60 to 120min in case of rain delays, extra innings, overtime etc. I'm running into problems with overlapping recordings failing. For example, say game A is scheduled for 1pm to 3pm. If I add 2 hours post padding, then the recording is 1pm to 5pm. The problem is in both NEWA and NPVR it still shows as just 1pm to 3pm, the post padding isn't added on the displayed time. If I then schedule another recording for say 4pm to 5pm I get a failed recording as the tuner is still in use.

The problem is, the conflict isn't detected until it actually craps out due to the tuner being in use. I know, keep track of your recordings stupid... the problem is when the other half schedules something and I don't catch it. That leads to discord in the household and if she ain't happy, nobodies happy!

So, my question is, is there some way to actually see the full record start/stop times? It would be nice if NPVR would automatically detect the conflicts, but I'd be happy with just being able to see the full recording times. I know I could do a manual recording, but doesn't that kinda defeat the purpose?

Its important to note that padding is always considered "optional, but nice to have if possible". Padding never causes conflicts. Conflicts are only decided on the times a show is scheduled to run.

If you want to record these long times past the scheduled end times, and dont want it to be optional, you'd be better of using the 'Manual Rec' feature in the Recordings screen. This will allow you to explicitly state the time you want the recording to begin and end.

You said it your 4pm recording failed because the original recording was still doing the padding. That shouldnt be the case. What should happen is that the original recording doing padding should be stopped at 4pm and the new recording started. If you want to post the logs, I'm happy to take a look why that didnt happen.

Thanks for the explanation Sub. I already looked at the log and then wiped it out. I've got several races and games scheduled for this weekend, I'll try and recreate it. That is, if Hurricane Irene, which is forecast to go right over the top of us, doesn't cut the power... Isabel 10 years ago, left us without power for 2 weeks!
