Without XP Style i can confirm the sluggish style (150 %), even if Droid Sans is installed or not. With marked "XP Style" the font looks smooth and clear. Perhaps this helps you out.

Back to the Problems with your fonts. This is not an easy thing, because it depends on a lot of windows functions and hardware drivers. NextPVR.exe is an 3D Application, so the appearance of itself and it's fonts can depend on your graphiccardsettings (on nvidia i'll select everytime "high quality" 3d profile and not "quality" or "fast"). On the other hand it could be a rendering stuff (ClearType/Anti Aliasing). For ClearType there's a so called "ClearType Tuner" from Microsoft itself outside, because they know about the problems with this one.
I am hoping, that you can find a real good setting, which is fitting to your situation. =)
