Hi! I am relatively new to NPVR and have run into a few issues that I cannot seem to find answers to elsewhere.
First - I have a Sabrent TV-USBHD tuner (USB Stick) that seems to work well watching live TV or recording programs after I have recently watched TV. However, when I schedule a recurring recording and leave the computer overnight, it seems that the USB tuner sleeps (I don't have XP set to sleep or hibernate that I am aware of) and then cannot be found when NPVR is ready to record at the scheduled time the next morning. I saw a post about the EPG update possibly causing an issue, but the EPG update is set for 2am, which is a good 5 hours before any scheduled recordings, so I don't think this is the issue. I have posted log files, just in case they are useful. Does anyone know what might be happening and how I might resolve this?
Second - The Sabrent tuner is a hybrid device, so it also has an analog tuner and capture device. I also have an old, analog ATI TV Wonder Pro PCI card installed in my computer. I was able to follow the analog installation instructions, as well as add these two devices to the AnalogDevices.xml file. NPVR successfully recognized both analog devices. When I try to run a channel scan with the Sabrent device, I get a message that reads "Unable to start device: Device failed to start." When I try to run a channel scan with the ATI device, I get a dialog box that reads "Unhandled exception has occurred in a component in your application." It then provides a long text of details, which I attached to this post. Unfortunately, clicking "Continue" just re-opens the dialog box, which then seems to get stuck in an endless loop that never allows it to close. I have to force NPVR to close with Task Manager to get the dialog box to stop popping up. Since a channel scan does not work, I tried manually setting up Ch 3 and Ch 4 for both devices to see if I could get them to pass a signal through in Live TV. Unfortunately, both devices give me an error when I try to open the manually created channels through the Channels screen in Live TV (device failed to start). I have included the FilterCheck log in the logs file attached to this post. Can anyone help me determine if either of the analog devices that I am trying to use are compatible with and can be used to record analog pass-through (VCR, digital set-top box, etc.) video?
I am running NPVR 2.3.6 on Win XP SP3, P4 3.0Ghz, 2GB RAM
I used the following entries in the AnalogDevices.xml file:
<Device filter="ATI TV Wonder Pro A/V Capture">
<Name>ATI TV Wonder Pro</Name>
<Type>SOFT_ENCODE</Type>
</Device>
<Device filter="Microtune Dongle Analog Capture">
<Name>Microtune Dongle Analog Capture Device</Name>
<Type>SOFT_ENCODE</Type>
</Device>
Thank you!
Update: I started having issues viewing Live TV with my digital tuner card. I think this is related to the analog tuners, as it did not happen before I added them. I posted a second set of log files, just in case these provide any insight. Removing the analog tuners from the Devices list and the AnalogDevices.xml entries resolves the Live TV issue. I scheduled new recordings after removing the analog devices, but am still having trouble with my digital tuner device failing to start at the scheduled recording time (this time only 2 hours or so after I successfully watched Live TV and scheduled the recordings.
