I'm not sure if this is "me", or something in the R1 patches.

On occasion I've had NPVR lock up after watching a Video. The video ends, the directory shows up and then goes unresponsive. A quick ctrl+alt+del to the task manager shows NPVR unresponsive. A quick force close and relaunch and I'm back in business.

Attached is the relevant log file. You can see the video right at the end. An episode of "Once Upon a Time" is stopped, several events are recorded after the stop and then the lock up.

The only other thing I changed along with the R1 patches is the latest TV Listings Beta. It's fairly random, I've been trying to identify if it is the video file-type or a codec being used, but haven't found a pattern.

Interesting that it successfully stops playing and returns back to NPVR and then freezes.

I cant see any obvious signs in the logs.

It might be worth temporarily removing/disabling your plugins to see if it makes any difference.

Sure, I'll give that a whirl.

This often happened for me whe I was using XP on the client and was the main reason I started using Vista about 6 months ago. A few weeks ago I had a problem with the client computer and dug out the old XP client for one night with the latest version of NextPVR installed and that locked up after playing the second recording. I seem to remember that usually it caused NextPVR.exe to run at 100% but sometimes just not responding. I did try XP on my current client but the lockups still happened but not since I moved to Vista.

I've also had something similar recently with NPVR locking up (needs to be killed in task manager as not responding) when I delete a video in the video library. Happens about 10% of the time but there is never anything in the logs to post. Just started testing after reverting back to the default skin (was using Nextblue) and without the (old) system plugin to see if that makes any difference. Only been running a day so too early to say but no lockups yet.

Thanks for the suggestions, folks! I'm running Win 7. Historically I've had zero problems with video playback for years and years. This is a recent development for me and it's so random it's hard to nail down. Thinking about it, aside from the R1 patches and the TV Listings Beta, at some point I updated to the latest System plugin as well.

Well, after almost a week I have reverted to a full system backup I did, hopefully, prior to these problems. Even disabling all the plugins the problem still happened, with the added wrinkle of freezing on occasion after any video playback, including recordings.

Unfortunately, a combination of NPVR being used all the time in my household and a day off with no family around caused me to "finally" do several updates at once while I had the chance.

I'll probably wait for the "final" R2 patches instead of doing the R1 right now since I'm itching to try the new skip patch.
