I have read a lot of posts and I am unclear to how the host PC is supposed to react with PC and NMT clients connected. It seems to be ok and stays awake streaming media but when it is a normal connect the sleep timer comes into play. Is that normal? I don't mind it on the PC client but the NMT doesn't always like these hard sockets closes.

The recording service only forces the machine to stay awake while a capture device is use. Whether it goes to sleep between these is entirely up to how the user has configured their operating system.

NRecord is doing a great job at waking to record, and my PC is doing a good job of staying awake during the capture. What I am hoping to find is a sleep setting to prevent it sleeping when there are open socket connections. Hopefully someone has found a way around this, or I will need to build my own tray app.

there's a program called Toff, [from dennis babkin] an alternative to win sleep timers..it has network activity detection and adjustable levels of sensitivity..Smile

Thank pBS, I searched out something like that before posting and didn't find it. I've started on my tray app and if that doesn't pan out it's nice to know there is a working option, although the NMT generates so few packets in screen saver mode, it might mean setting the network activity threshold so low that basic Windows activities like the master browser and UPnP will keep the host awake.

I just put up with it. I used to have a gbpvr menu option to change powersaving on the server from "alwayson" and "savepower" but this seems to have got lost.
I have a scheduled task to switch to powersaving mode in the evening after normal viewing times.

I have never had a problem with the client keeping the server alive but if I shut down the client or power off the router the server goes to sleep within seconds. However I have a vague memory of last year the client with NextPVR running in perhaps the default menu and the server going to sleep but it has not happened recently. I also remember trying to put the server to sleep only to find it immediatly wakes up with the "Wake" coming from the network and realised the client was still on.
