How do you upgrade from one version of NPVR to the next?

I want to keep as many of my settings as I can. Is there a stickied post on this somewhere? Sure would be nice to have one.

Upgrades are typically non-destructive and relatively safe, in fact I am using the same baseline that I used before 1.5 was public.

Just stop the recording service and tray app, then run the installer and it'll upgrade and keep all your settings. You can keep a copy of npvr.db3 and config.xml if you're paranoid.

I am paranoid, and I do take a backup copy of config.xml and npvr.db3 each time I do a version upgrade - I've been doing it for around five years and I don't know how many version upgrades, and I haven't needed to use the backups yet.

Of course none of us can beat Sodds Law, and the chances are that the first time I don't take a backup before upgrading is the one time that it will go horribly wrong!
