LiveTV Freezes Are Back on Clients

I hate to say it but with the Post R2 rollup patch, I am now seeing Live TV hangs again.

I installed the update on my server and two clients and now it hangs again after about 10 minutes or so. Going to do some more testing later this evening when I get a chance.

I had some intermittent results, so I reinstalled 2.5.9 on the server and then applied the patch. After that a couple of test cases worked fine, but I need to test it again another client.

This is a tough one to test, it can work for hours or minutes. I notice it most watching a 3 hour hockey game, it rarely can do that.

This rollup on my server and client allows me to watch live TV for the first time on my client. With some light channel surfing on the client, no hangs... awesome, thanks a lot!!

Last night I was trying some more testing and it had run for over two hours when I accidentally hit the power button instead of Esc and my NexyPVR session frozen with the screen saver active when I resumed. I have attached my NPVR log since it shows some of the potential activity that might follow a network error, and the lack of the ability of the reconnect. Maybe NextPVR's client sockets or db connections aren't reestablished after network errors?

I do have my suspicions that it's somehow related to network errors. NextPVR (and GBPVR before it) have always assumed a reliable network, use TCP for streaming, and have never attempted reconnects. The problem with network stuff is that your often don't get notifications of connections going bad for a relatively long time after it happens. I don't suppose you want to retest streaming with a cross-over cable connected between client and server

The patches I posted earlier in this thread, did fix real problems I found, and I'm sure they'll help some user, but if there is other network issues happening for other users then there is probably more that needs to be done.

A couple of weeks ago I left a client streaming for two days without any problems.

I will let it run overnight, connect, it's easy since you don't need cross-over cable anymore. I just have to move my buffer from SSD, since when it crashes with read 0 the heartbeat still is sent and the rolling files continue to be made without getting deleted.

I'm still getting these hangs too, with the "NPVR Post-R2 Rollup 2" patches installed on both client and server. Logs attached. Let me know if you'd like more information.

I have been testing live tv on a pre-release from sub, and after extensive testing over the last 13 hours including some three and four hour runs I have had no freezes, so I am really optimistic about the improvements. There were a lot of other client live bugs squashed along the course of this thread and I'd really like to thank sub for all the effort, I know he doesn't use a client or watch much live tv so this is all for us.

As the creator of this thread, I'll second the above. Unfortunately, since the new year I've been pretty busy with work (stupidly got myself promoted) and haven't been here to test anything of which I've reported.

I'm holding off for the new release to see what that brings and will start fresh testing and reporting now that my time is getting under control again.

sub didn't need to put in all this time for our clinet TV viewing, but he did to make it better for us - just like the rest of NPVR. Thanks sub.

I can also report that I've tested client livetv on the latest pre-release code and it ran for over 4 hours without incident. Before that I'd get multiple freezes per hour.

I think PC client users will be very pleased with the upcoming release.
