Stuttery streaming over internet

Hi, I have set the following parameter in the config.xml to allow streaming TV over the internet:

<AllowRemoteStreaming>false</AllowRemoteStreaming>

This works fine over a fast network but when attempting to stream to a device in another country, it is quite stuttery (and quite understandably so). I would like to reduce the bitrate or change some settings to enable streaming to be smoother (obviously at reduced quality). I am not sure what setting to apply. Does anyone have any idea where and how I can change these settings.

Moved thread to NPVR support since that streaming is part of the NPVR configuration and not part of NEWA.

Although this has been moved, isn't there a setting in the NEWA to change bitrate for the transcoding?

Only if you are using VLC based streaming which is part of NEWA. They configuration setting you highlighted is part of the native NPVR streaming. There may be something that can be done in the config file of NPVR to change the bitrate but I really don't know. Thus the reason for moving to the NPVR support thread.

Thanks for quick reply. Yes, I am using VLC based streaming. Are bitrate settings for the VLC based streaming stored in config.xml? I have changed a few options which appear to be related to what I was trying to achieve but they appeared to have no effect on the streaming quality.
