Hi,

I have recently moved from using Argus TV to Next PVR due to instability issues. Next PVR seems to have cured all my issues and is exactly what I was after. One issue I have spotted is that the file size for the recordings has drastically increased since I swapped. The recording of exactly the same 15 minute radio programme used to be about 30Mb....it's now 120Mb. The same is true for TV programmes which used to be about 250Mb per hour, but are now 1Gb. From what I have read I understand I can't influence the quality of the recording, so am I missing something?

My set up has remained the same since I was on Argus TV, with the same BDA based USB digital tuner.

Any helps will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Mark

NextPVR simply records the exact transport stream it receives from the broadcaster. All I can surmise from your description, knowing nothing at all about Argus TV, is that Argus must have been re-encoding the stream to a smaller format.

1 GB an hour sounds about right (from memory) for UK standard definition.

I think it depends on the channel and the resolution they run at. 1.4 GB seems normal of 1Hour on ITV1 but some BBC1 recordings are 2GB. 1GB per hour on Quest and about the same on ITV3.

Ok, thanks for your responses. As it sounds like the norm, I will stop worrying about it Smile

Those smaller files were probably the reason why you had problems before.
