Graham Wrote:North American cable TV has again knocked me out ... Sorry.

I really don't need the recording feature. My main focus is use the NPVR plugin to view tv in XBMC. I have this working on my desktop, just for testing purposes, but now that I'm trying to get it working on my Zotac for practical use, it's not working. I don't get why one would work and the other doesn't. Strange.

Then NPVR is receiving no data from the HDHomerun Prime on whichever machine you were talking about. Is the cable connected to the HDHR? Is the HDHR connected to the computer? Do you have channels for the HDHR Prime devices in NPVR under Settings/Devices?

Recording is just like viewing except it requires no renderers, decoders, displays, speakers, XBMC or client machines. If you can't record, then you can't do anything.

Then it might prove more practical to use your desktop. Were the specs in your first post for the Zotac? Does it have BDA components? Did you install all the prerequisite software?

[Edit] Any chance you're running two firewalls at the same time?

Yes, the HDHR is connected to the computer. I do have chennels for the HDHR Prime in NPVR. The guide works fine.

The ZOTAC ZBOXHD-ND22-U is the box I'm working on right now. The first post was my desktop. The Zotac does have BDA components. TV works fine in HDHR app and WMC. Yes, I installed all prerequisite software. I could use the desktop, but I'd much rather use something that is not so power hungry. Plus I play games on it, so that would leave me needing to buy a new PC.

I have the Zotac firewall disabled, and never installed any other firewall software.

Thanks for your input. I really hope I can get this working.

So the Zotac is also running Windows 7 and also has WMC installed? Wonder why NPVR can't get any signal from HDHomerun with firewall disabled? I suggest that you open WMC, go to Extras, click on Extras Gallery, then click on the cable connector icon and run Digital Cable Advisor to verify that your system has a supported configuration. Let us know what it says.

It looks like something else is using the device:

Code:
2013-05-04 16:37:30.439    [DEBUG][6]    About to start HDHR device. Checking status for information sake... (could tell if it's already in use elsewhere)
2013-05-04 16:37:30.439    [DEBUG][6]    Executing: C:\Program Files\Silicondust\HDHomeRun\hdhomerun_config.exe 13172521 get /tuner0/status
2013-05-04 16:37:30.482    [DEBUG][6]    Status: ch=qam:279000000 lock=qam256 ss=95 snq=100 seq=100 bps=38810720 pps=211

2013-05-04 16:37:31.650    [DEBUG][6]    SetTarget@2
2013-05-04 16:37:31.650    [DEBUG][6]    Executing: C:\Program Files\Silicondust\HDHomeRun\hdhomerun_config.exe 13172521 set /tuner0/vchannel 9
2013-05-04 16:37:31.683    [DEBUG][6]    [B]Status: ERROR: resource locked by 192.168.1.109[/B]

2013-05-04 16:37:31.709    [DEBUG][6]    NIC: 802.11n Wireless PCI Express Card LAN Adapter
2013-05-04 16:37:31.709    [DEBUG][6]    Executing: C:\Program Files\Silicondust\HDHomeRun\hdhomerun_config.exe 13172521 set /tuner0/target rtp://192.168.1.120:36313
The Zotac box seems to have an IP address of 192.168.1.120 but something with an IP address of 192.168.1.109 is using the device.

FYI: the HDHR app uses a proprietary source filter and not BDA components. NPVR also does not use BDA for HDHR Prime variety tuners.

Hi whurlston, it's good to have you around! You were scarce for a few months. OP whiteyw80 could perhaps use your advice re: HDHR Setup application setting. I know you recommend "Other: ATSC/QAM" for the HDHR Dual, but could that possibly apply to the Prime as well? Is there a setting that works reasonably well with both NextPVR and WMC?

That's good to know, and apparently different from the HDHR Dual. I recall a thread in which an NPVR 2.5.9 user with HDHR Dual couldn't scan for channels due to a lack of BDA components. Would your statement also apply if a Prime was being used for ATSC/QAM rather than with a cablecard?

Thanks, had some medical issues preventing me from spending as much time on the computer as I would have liked. I'm starting to recover nicely though.

That setting won't apply to NextPVR/WMC for the Prime. That setting defines how the BDA driver behaves but NextPVR uses the command line program (hdhomerun_config.exe as you can see above in the logs) for communicating with the Prime (channel change, set target, etc), not the BDA components. NextPVR then uses an RTP source filter to capture the video stream. The same applies to the Hauppauge models. WMC uses a proprietary implementation of the DRI interface instead of the (normal) BDA components as well.

Correct. NextPVR uses BDA for the Dual with the ATSC/QAM capture sources.

Zeb Wrote:Would your statement also apply if a Prime was being used for ATSC/QAM rather than with a cablecard?

For any capture source listed with a "Type" of "HDHR" (Prime, DCR-2650), the above holds true (command line, rtp). For capture sources listed as type ATSC/QAM/DVB-*, NextPVR uses BDA components. I don't have any hands on experience with the Prime but if you set it up using the "HDHR" type capture source (first five entries in the pic below), my statement still applies. If you set it up as a "QAM" type capture source, then it uses BDA components. For HDHR Duals, you should always ignore the "HDHR" type capture source.
