I can no longer watch TV through NVPR.
If I attempt to change the decoder NVPR hangs as soon as I click on decoders in the settings.
I have to restart the PC tor release the program.

I have uninstalled and reinstalled NVPR and its still happening.

any ideas?

thanks in advance.

If you cannot watch TV then you need to break the problem down to see if its the recording or play back part at fault but attaching all the logs would help.
Can you play back existing recordings? Probably not?
Can you make a new recording and does it play back in NextPVR? If not can you play back in something like VLC?
What Decoders are you using?
Have you tried unregistering the problem decoder in case it is faulty and install different ones?
Which OS are you using?

It records OK. I play them back with VLC without problem.
If I try playback in NVPR I get sound but no picture - same thing when I try to watch live TV

Cant remember the decoders - they've been there for a couple of years - probably the the defaults. I ran SAF 6.1.? years ago and let it choose some defaults.
I cant change the decoders as NVPR crashes as soon as I click on decoders in the settings.
I dont know how to un register them or get the logs.
Im using Win 7.

thanks.

If you read johnsonx42's sticky post at the top of the support page it will give you all the info to post logs. Repeat the problem then immediatly after zip the logs.

You didnt mention which decoders you are using but as you are using Windows 7 then you could be using the Microsoft decoder which is supposed to be good. A recent Windows update disabled H264 decoding in external software like NextPVR. There is a NextPVR patch to re enable H264. However you dont mention what signal you are picking up so dont know if it requires MPEG2 or H264 video decoders.

Regsvr32 is used to disable or enable decoders and help will tell you the syntax.

"regsvr32 <file-name>" (for example, 'regsvr32 NeNDVid.ax' ).

I tend to use DXVAchecker to play with decoders. Under the "Direct Show" tab select DSF/MFT Viewer and all the installed decoders are displayed. You can enable/disable any decoder and it will show you the file name and full path of each one so note the details before you disable in case you want to enable it later.

Once you have disabled the problem decoder you can hopefully select another. In general the Microsoft, Cyberlink and ffdshow all work well on Freeview SD although you will have to enable MPEG2 in setup if using ffdshow. In general the LAV video decoder seems to be the least reliable for off air TV.

I use the K-Lite codec pack and it fixes some problems with unreg'd and missing DirectShow components (including cleaning up after NextPVR uninstalls). I know that in GraphEdit I have crashes if certain LAV codecs are installed and I have to rename them.

This is a bug in GraphEdit - use GraphStudioNext instead (it is part of SAF tools) !
You just cannot rename register filter (LAVF codec), you need to unregister it first.

That's what I do, and it crashes in GraphStudioNext too.

Thanks for all the replies.
I installed all the patches in the sticky. The problem is now solved.
I think I fell victim to this "A recent Windows update disabled H264 decoding in external software like NextPVR".
I'm in Ireland and so needed both MPEG2 (UK) and H264 (Ireland) video decoders.
After applying the patches and restarting I was able to access the decoders section again. I set the mpeg decoder to the Windows default (it was set to disabled) and I got my picture back.

thanks very much.

Your troubles probably began when you updated to Internet Explorer 10. BTW if you avoided the February 26 platform update (KB2670838), there should be no reason not to install it now that you have Patch 2.
