Is port 443 open in windows firewall on the server?

Have you allowed VLC access via the firewall?

Yes on both.

I think vlc is just not firing up, or do the logs say otherwise?
Maybe I should reinstall newa?

Sorry for being a burden.

What DID get out of the logs?

I lust remembered (forgot to mention each time) I noticed some strange behaviour: since the streaming isn't working, I never have to log in to newa and logging out doesn't function (don't get logged out).
I thought it was installed when streaming did work, but not sure now, I do have nDroid installed now. Could that be interfering??

I'll stop the ndroid service and let you know what happens.

nDroid service stopped, problem the same (not being able to stream).

And: I still don't have to log in... I don't understand.
After pressing "logout" I get the page "http://192.168.2.1:8866/Logout2.aspx" but internet explorer stays there.

Take nDroid out of the equation - it does nothing to interfere with NEWA or the NextPVR web server in general. At worst if you have too many clients trying to stream live TV (for example) using a mix of NEWA and nDroid, you might run out of tuners.

Other than that it shouldn't cause any problems - if you're not using nDroid at a particular time the service just sits quietly in the background waiting for a network connection and request. If it will set your mind at rest until you fix your NEWA problem, just leave the nDroid service permanently disabled.

Cheers,
Brian

I just picked up on this.

@Wim - What is telling the client to connect to port 443 ????

I recently did some TLS / SSL programming and without relevant X.509 certificates (and a trusted certificate authority) any connection attempt will crash and burn.

I haven't changed anything in NEWA since it worked last August. I had the port set to 443 and it worked than.
I tested with http://www.ipfingerprints.com/portscan.php and the port is open.

BUT, I just changed the port to 7648 and gues what: it works......but since it worked before, I am not sure 443 in itself is the problem.
Last days some other thing has crossed (the back of) my mind: I have setup a vpn connection since August. Could this be interfering? I will investigate this further and post it here.

Deleted the VPN connection and guess what: it works now with port 443! The VPN Must be interfering somehow.

Thanks for the help.

Wim

p.s. Had problems with nDroid, got some (but not all) improvement there too. Will post about that in the other forum.

Good to here.... I can see how VPN would interfere with 443 as 443 is the standard SSL port.

One thing to remember is as MS adds different patches and security fixes it is possible that something that worked forever....can no longer work....so you can't always rely on - "it worked before"... Smile
