In my part of Canada, analog has gone away, so no more dual tuner Tivo, and I'm getting my wife to use npvr more. I have Hauppauge HD Tuner boxes (1 Colossus & 1 HD PVR) and 2 Hauppauge 950q devices for ClearQam (mostly SD unless there's a free preview). Order is 1) Colossus (fixed on CTV), 2) HD PVR, 3&4) 950q. There's an option when you choose to "Record" under "Recording Type" called Record All Episodes, All Channels. I want to set certain shows to record to any available device, so that it will record even if we want to set a one-off recording or my wife wants to record something.

For example, Tuesday night at 8pm I have Marvel's Agents of SHIELD recording on the Colossus, and The Voice on the HD PVR. Currently, if I want to record a hockey game, I get the conflict, tell it to delete the voice, then go back into the guide and schedule the voice on SD under a 950q.

I hoped that if I set The Voice to "Record All Episodes, All Channels", it would record it on the 950q if I want to record the hockey game, or my wife wants to record Glee. So I deleted my "Record New Show on this Channel" recording of "The Voice," and attempted to change it to record all episodes, all channels. It doesn't seem to want to set to record on ANY channel. (No recording is scheduled) I don't know if there's a single conflict somewhere in the chain that doesn't allow it to record, or if I'm doing something wrong, or... Is what I want to do possible, or should I use my current conflict resolution of cancelling a recording and then manually setting it on an SD channel?

If you delete a recording or a scheduled manually without by removing the recurring recording, you won't be able to re-record it as a scheduled recording without clearling the deleted file history.

I thought that i had deleted the recurring recording first, then tried to schedule in tv guide. I just tried a different show at a time nothing is scheduled with the record all episodes, all channels, and it worked. I must have done something wrong with the voice. What's the deleted file history?

Ok, there was a conflict. But, when I set the record all function, it defaults to the SD channel, even though that device is #3 on the priority list. Do I need to change the OID for the SD channel, or change the number higher than the HD channels? It seems like it defaults to the lowest channel number...

Are you saying you want record all any channel to support the device priority list? It doesn't for me.

More like a channel priority list - NBC HD over NBC SD.

That being said, after thinking this through, I don't think what I am hoping for is going to work. It would take too much work by the system - Record channel NBC HD unless any other HD channel is requested at the same time, when it can record with the NBC SD. That being said, Record All on all channels would work, but I would need to have the SD channels a lower priority than the HD channels.

There is a table in the database that keeps a record of all deleted recordings. When "Avoid duplicate recordings were possible" is set, NextPVR uses the un-deleted recordings in the database and the deleted recording in the "deleted files" table to identify duplicates.

Note that the description of the "Avoid duplicates ..." option in the wiki is a bit off ... NextPVR is also able to use show name and series and episode numbers to identify duplicates and is not solely reliant on Schedules Direct. "Avoid duplicates ..." works for me in the UK.
