Wondering if anyone out there has created a .bat file that will work in NextPVR to create smaller size, higher data rate files from these HD recordings? My need is for long term archiving... not for streaming to ipads or tv's.

As a long time Beyond TV user it would take the (standard def) files and do two things:

1) strip off the closed captioning using CCExtractor (program's creator helped with that)

2) create a smaller file using DIVX (BTV did that as part of the program)

I'm not married to DIVX. Perhaps using Handbrake and H.264 will work(?)

Coding is not my thing. I can mess around with a .bat file with some help.

Please let me know if you have anything to get me started.

Thanks!

Attached is a script that can be called from PostProcessing.bat or you can drop a file on it.

It uses handbrake to transcode the file. I suggest you create a "preset" to define how aggressive you want the compression to be.

HBTranscoder.cmd "InputFile" "Handbrake Preset"

For example, In PostProcessing, call it by: HBTranscoder.cmd "%1" "Android Tablet"

Also you can edit the script to force .mkv (it currently defaults to .mp4)

Hey thanks. Was not expecting anything so soon.

Like I stated, I'm not a coder so even this will take me some time to figure out.

Can I ask you...

1) Can this work with more than one source folder and/or destination folder if the need arises? Right now, according to Sub, there can only be a single record/source folder if doing manual recordings... which is how I plan to work with NextPVR... but just asking if it CAN be done.

2) Can a start/stop time be set up so it will run "after hours" during the night when not doing any recording and if so, will it pick up where it left off when the time runs out or at least complete the file before shutting off?

You mention using .mkv which is new to me. This is not DIVX I assume but is it something similar as far as good quality with lower file size?

Is there a wiki for getting started using the post-processing functions of NextPVR do you know?

Thanks!

You pass it a fully qualified name (including drive and path), it generates the output in the same directory with a .mp4 or .mkv extension. This will work with any windows location.
Two ways to use it:
1. put a call in postprocessing.bat, it will transcode automatically when your recording is done.
2. create a shortcut on your desktop, then simply use File Explorer to drag and drop a file on the shortcut.

Note, I created this last night and tested a few scenarios. Very likely that there are conditions it doesn't handle well, but it should give you a framework to start. Also I noticed in another post you'd like to rename the file, do a search for ImageGrabLite, that'll probably do what you need.

You could create a driver cmd file to identify files to transcode, then use Windows Scheduler to run the driver cmd file during off-hours. However, what you are asking here is typically beyond what would be expected of a batch file.

No, not divx.
