These aren't EIA 608 subtitles (aka North American Closed Captions). These SRT subtitles.

The formatting is a lot more strict with Closed Captions.

Since Upgrading to 3.4.8 - before & after installing the above patches (Also have upgraded Windows 8.1 to 64bit since 3.3.8) I have not been able to get embedded srt subtitles in MKV files working. These worked in 3.3.8 using lav splitter, xy-vobsub and lav video codecs.
This combination works fine in GraphStudioNext 32 bit and MPC-HC 32 bit, so my setup ought to work.

If a standalone srt file is included, then the on-screen subtitle menu has srt subtitles which work, but are so big and obscure half the screen. (In xy-vobsub I have font set to Droid Sans Regular 14 pale yellow, and extend to 16:9 which is readable but unobtrusive on 50" TV) Embedded subtitles show in the subtitle menu but not on screen.
It's not an overly complicated system - it's more - overly simple operatives  Huh

Sub - I actually preferred the first patch. As you can imagine from my first description in this thread, getting two languages in different colours on one screen can become a tad overcrowded. With your tweak, if each language fits on one line it works. On the odd occasion when the top language wraps over to the next line it fouls up the language below - one overwrites the other. So as you can see smaller is better from my view, but I realise you have to serve the mainstream community, so clearly it's your judgement as to what is best for next release!

Lao Pan, although no expert I can say that I had MKV + SRT files working fine after the upgrade - it was precisely the situation I was in when I kicked off this thread. Having read up elsewhere I gather that TS files are special in that they are driven by NextPVR's internal workings whereas everything else - presumably including MKV - calls external resources to run. So could it be that the resources you tweaked because you believed NextPVR using them to play your files, are not the resources it is in fact using? Just a thought.

I also thought that for MKV it used directshow

This is what is building in GraphStudioNext

And this is what is showing in MPC-HC and how it looked in NPVR3.3.8 previously

Attached Log shows browsing to the file in Movies Plugin, Playing it, skipping to dialogue, then trying subtitles menu - subtitles english, no subtitles, disabled.

No subtitles to be seen anywhere Sad
