Help with setting up movies and tv series please

if you've got a tv tuner in your pc and want to record/watch live tv via the tuner, then NextPVR is probably the best software for the job.

if you don't have a tuner and want a front end to access your ripped/download tv shows and movies and you want the software go and download all the artwork for you automagically, then you will probably be happier with Kodi as it automates this better than NextPVR does. In fact think that NextPVR only looks up tvdb.com for new recordings, not existing videos on your disk.

You can manually ask npvr to fetch metadata for videos that is not recorded by npvr.

Do you mean using IGL? (I can't recall any build in mechanism).

Given that kalg said " just trying this htpc front end just got into this htpc thing", I am assuming that he might not be up for writing windows scripts and hacking about but instead looking for an "out of the box" solution that just does it for him. Obviously I may be mistaken as he is a new member of the forums. If I just wanted a front end for ripped/downloaded videos, kodi is the better solution in my view (though it does pain me to say this as a long time NextPVR user).

Yes if he wants it done automagically Kodi is definitely better, what I was refering to is the "fetch metadata" in the hidden menu in Video of npvr.
