Plextor PX-TV402U software

I just got a 402U and would prefer to use GBPVR. I notice in the install notes on the site here for GBPVR it says the Plextor supplied software, WinDVR and WinDVD Creator must be installed. I'll assume where it says WinDVD twice, you mean WinDVR and WinDVD Creator. Is it really necessary to install all this to use GBPVR? I just hate to install yet more video software on my computer that I won't use. Why is it required?

Yes you need to WinDVD Creator installed on you machine. This is because the Plextor SDK specifies external application should use two Intervideo components (MPEG mux and audio encoder). Unlike the Hauppauge cards, the PX-TV402U does not encode audio or multiplex in hardware, instead it needs software components to this. Plextor do not supply there own components, but instead recommend that developers use the Intervideo ones that are supplied with their devices.

OK, so I ONLY NEED WinDVD Creator, NOT WinDVR, the TV watching/pvr application furnished by Plextor? That would be good news.

So........if I have something like Moonlights Xmuxer Pro, and some other Audio encoder, would GBPVR use any it found, or is it NECESSARY to have Intervideo's installed?

I guess I'll install WinDVD Creator, maybe I'll like it better than Nero anyway.

You need the Intervideo WinDVD Creator components and you cant substitute other components.

You also need an MPEG2 decoder. My Plextor unit shipped with WinDVD which included this, but you can substitute this for any MPEG2 decoder.
