Hope I can get a quick answer on this one.

I have a Nova-T-500 and keep getting BSOD. I originally thought it was something to do with GBPVR but it isn't. I decoded the DMP file and found it was a known problem with Nova T 500 and well documented here http://www.hauppauge.co.uk/board/showthread.php?t=9888

I know it is actually a card driver problem but just thought I would ask if I had to install Hauppage software (other than driver) to make GBPVR work or will it work with just the card drivers installed?

EDIT to add; BDODs usually happen when watching a program that you are also recording.

Edit to add to title so others can find this thread if needed.

No, you dont need it. Many people do install the software that came with their card though, as a convenient way to get the decoders they'll need to use GB-PVR.

Have new drivers fixed the BSOD problem?

I had the exact same symptoms with a Nova-t USB2 and it was fixed by a BIOS update. I seem to remember reading that the Nova-T 500 uses USB.

I download the latest Hauppauge CD from time to time and install the drivers using hcwdriverinstall.exe. I also install the ir software by running the ir32.exe from the ir32 folder. I have to click the Fix Hauppauge remote button in config.exe after installing new ir software.

The smd folder contains an exe to install decoders. It appears that the latest version is smd06 and it installs mainconcept decoders on my machine. I haven't tried these with GBPVR.

I don't recall reading of problems due to installing the entire WinTV app.

You are correct Nova T 500 is treated as a USB device. (go figure Smile)
I haven't tried the new V7 drivers as suggested on Hauppauges forum in the last post (link above) but I will today and get back to you in a week or two. Has to be that long to ensure it really does or doesn't work.
If it doesn't work will try downgrading USBEHCI.SYS to pre SP3 version as also suggested in that thread.

They use the same USB interfaced tuners devices as their USB devices, so I guess it was easier to add the VIA PCI<>USB interface to teh internal board than designing a new tuner from scratch.

I've been using drivers version 4.3.25080.0 since it came out and things have been mainly stable except for a roughly monthly failure of the driver to get data from the card (and this is coming into and out of hibernate half a dozen times a day at least).

I email the output of devcon.exe to myself for the device when wake.cmd runs coming out of hibernate so that I can spot the driver failing. Sadly, it doesn't look like devcon sets a proper error exit code when something bad happens.

You could be having so few problem because you haven't upgraded to XP SP3 which according to the thread above is where the main proplem begins because Microsoft updated USBEHCI.SYS

I don't know if it's any help, but I fixed by Nova-T BSOD problem by disabling system standby. I still let my machine hibernate, but since it stopped it going to standby the BSOD went away.

The new hauppauge driver for Nova-T-500 seems to have stopped the BSODs.

I have been running them on a computer which stays awake and running 24/7 at 100% CPU with no blue screens.

Thanks for the feedback. I ended up backing out SP3 to get around this problem.

Just to be clear... did you just install the 4.3.26168 drivers, or did you have to fiddle about with usbehci.sys?
