SD (576i) TV picture distorted

I have just replaced a 42" LCD with a 55" LCD TV & now the picture on Standard Definition Channels is distorted. The image at the centre of the screen appears ok but the image at the edge of the screen is widened or stretched out it is particularly noticeable when the camera pans to follow movement or zooms in or out. The problem appears to be restricted to SD channels only.

The SD picture is fine using the TVs native tuner.

Any ideas on how to fix the problem?

Assuming that all was OK with the 42", maybe try playing with the 55" TV's aspect ratio settings - stretch, zoom, crop or whatever...

Yeah, it'll be your TV doing this. Check it's aspect ratio settings.

I've seen that some TV's have a mode where they do a non-linear stretch of 4:3 content so that the center is stretched only a little and looks fairly normal, but the stretch increases towards the edges such that everything is very wide. What you describe sounds like this, and isn't being done by nextpvr.
