Hi,

I'm a newbie with NextPVR.

I'm running NextPVR under Windows 10. I've installed NextPVR, however I cannot seem to configure the MPEG2 decoder. In the NextPVR Decoders dialog, under "Video Decoders MPEG2 Video:" there is only one option "Disabled". If I try to select the button with the three dots to the right of this (which I assume is a button to enable me to browse the filesystem and find the correct decoder) the button does nothing.

I have a hauppauge Win TV-7164 BDA ATSC/QAM dual tuner card. In the installation instructions for NextPVR (at http://www.nextpvr.com/decoders.html) it says that if you want to install an MPEG2 video decoder then: "MPEG-2 Video: ... the MainConcept decoder that comes with the Hauppauge WinTV software, ..." is available. I imagine that this means that I am to point the MPEG2 Video decoder in the NextPVR "Decoders" dialog to the MainConcept decoder that comes with my hauppauge tuner card. I can't seem to do this.

I have three problems:
1. the MainConcept decoder is not presented as an MPEG2 Video decoder option by NextPVR

2. the little button which is beside the "Video Decoders MPEG2 Video" does not allow me to browse to the location of the MainConcept decoder

3. even if I could browse my filesystem I don't know where the MainConcept decoder is located on my filesystem (I installed the hauppauge dual tuner card but I have no idea where it put the MainConcept decoder).

I've attached the logs from NextPVR to this post, as well as a snapshot of the NextPVR Decoders dialog.

Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

This is because you don't have any MPEG-2 decoders on your machine.

This button is to view the setting screen for the currently selected decoder. As you can guess, 'Disabled' isn't a decoder, so doesn't have settings to show you.

You need to install the Hauppauge WinTV7 or WinTV8 software to have this decoder available.

These are answered above

You don't browse for it. NextPVR is asking Windows for the list of registered MPEG2 decoders, and showing them in the list. You don't need to know where they are, and you don't need to browse for them. (but FYI, the MainConcept is in something like C:\Program Files (x86)\WinTV\WinTV8\MPEG-2\MainConcept32871).

Hi!

Thanks for the quick and informative response. You were able to solve my problem. I installed the Hauppauge WinTV7 software (which came on my hauppauge installation DVD), restarted NextPVR, and sure enough it recognized MainConcept as an MPEG2 decoder. I selected MainConcept as the MPEG2 Decoder and was able to succesfully watch video.

Thanks!

Just an idea, but perhaps using a little gear icon for settings would prevent such confusion?

To be honest, I'm sure that'd make it any clearer. I could look at options like hiding that button if the user has Disabled selected. It's probably not worth the effort though - I don't think it's been a general source of confusion for people.
