(please forgive my bad english)

I'm discovering GB PVR which I intend to use with my Nova-t (90002) and my xcard.

I have 2 PC at home :
- main PC, used to do all current things including Internet,
- secondary PC, as a divx box & digital recorder, located under television.

All my Nova-t and Xcard are in the secondary PC.

This secondary PC is not connect to internet.
I don't need and I don't want to connect it to Internet.

BUT, as I see in GB PVR, I have a Problem !
It seems that I cannot have GB PVR to create the channel list without using an EPG XML file which have to connect to internet to retreive TV programs.
I'm I correct to this point ?

I intended to use GB PVR just to see live TV, not for doing any EPG recording.

Is there any simple method to ask GB PVR to just create the channel List without having to ruin my poor brain with things like xlmtv, and without having to connect to internet ?

Thanks in advance for helping a poor noob.

The guide doesn't serve a purpose w/o programs to show, so you will need the internet for that. You could just use live tv and flip channels.

You could always install a 2nd copy on the computer w/ the internet, download the guide on it, and then move the guide data to the other computer.

You can't make GBPVR create the channel list "automagically" without using an xmltv guide, you will have to enter the channels by hand. If you live in a country which uses frequencies instead of channels, you can read about TuningAssistant and FreqCopy on the wiki. There you'll also find other info about gbpvr that is useful.

Good luck!

I am also in the same situation of wanting to run GBPVR on a standalone PC not connected to the internet.
I just want to be able to do manually setup timed recording from the TV aerial using the PVR150 .
I am assuming I can set up the channels using "TuningAssistant" and not have to setup EPG - but XMLTV needs to be setup as it contains info on the TV channels??
Please correct me if my assumptions are wrong.

Well, if you don't use xmltv, you can't use the program guide. And in order to get xmltv to work, you need to download data from somewhere.

If you choose not to use the program guide, you can always use gbpvr as a "normal" VCR, that is to schedule recordings manually, by entering date, start/stop times and tv station.

I hope I make some sense here.

I have a pay-as-you-go internet connection. How often would I need to make a connection to use the EPG and make recordings via EPG.

That depends a little on your xmltv source (the web pages that xmltv gets the program data from). Most sources out there have about 7-14 days of program data. That means that you'd have to download this every 7-14 days. Perhaps a little bit more often to make sure that you don't "miss" anything. Say, for example, that you fetch data every 7 days, and for some reason it fails... then you'd be without program data for the next 7 days. Obviously you can force a download in such case, so I guess it's not the end of the world. You'd just have to keep an extra eye on the guide to make sure you're not running out of info :-)

xmltv needed if you want to have epg information.
To add channels without xmltv, I find that I have to go into the settings (capture source / epg&xmltv settings button), click okay (on default), update epg (which fails), then click add new channel with name and tuning channel number, otherwise add is disabled. Then the channels are in the epg but blank, and listed in the record manually part.
(hey but I'm new, so I could be taking the long route round Smile )

Hi there,
I'm in pretty much the same situation (for over a year now), where my htpc only has a dial-up connection. And that with a wire running across the living room Cool

What I did to resolve the problem was use teletext to fill an xmltv file. I've created a vtplus script and a visual basic script that in cooperation extract the program data from teletext and convert it to the xmltv format. It does require a bit of configuring, but it works very reliable. Probably less than one problem a month, and these problems mainly caused by strange data or vtplus quirks.

Oh, the data is of course less rich than when taken from the internet, but rich enough for programming shows :p

I don't have the link here at hand, but if you're interested I can put it here tomorrow. Or search the forum for TT2XMLTV.
