Do we mean "shutdown" by clicking "Shutdown" in the Windows Start menu? And do we mean that it is the NextPVR Recording Service that triggers the EPG update?

Yes. Providing power is still applied and no physical switch is off then all the PC's I've had over the years have powered up for their EPG updates (likewise for remote admin with VNC etc) (Well since ATX PSU were used)
There my well be a setting somewhere in the BIOS to enable this. NextPVR requests windows to wake at a certain time and for a change it does as it's told. The mechanics are the same as waking to record.

An option is the -updateepgonly that you mention in your first post in 2017 ...  Simply stated, change the existing updateepg.bat by adding a nextpvr.exe -updateepgonly to the end of the batch file and use Windows Task Scheduler to run the batch file once per day and set the option to run the batch file at the next power-on if the scheduler could not run the batch file at the scheduled time.  You will need to specify the correct paths and folders in the batch file.

Thanks a lot Graham for your always prompt and useful feedbacks! 2017...yes, the time passes fast! Wink

Would it be possbile to implement in NextPVR the EPG update in case the scheduled time is missed? I think it would be more straight forward for a user to have a "transparent solution" instead of struggling with Windows Task Manager (may be not all the people are skilled with such stuffs).

Have a great day!

Hi @Graham, I'm returning back after a (long) while since I have a new machine and just installed the NextPVR version 5! It looks really amazing and I have to say that is even more simple to be used. Thanks a lot for the effort on this.

I would just ask if the EPG guide now updates itself autonomously if a scheduled update is missed (i.e. the PC is switched off at that time) or if I have still to rely on the .bat approach described above (if still supported).

Thanks a lot in advance for your feedback!

Cheers,

Alex

The auto EPG process is the same in V5 as in V4 and will not run if the machine is off at the appointed time.

Note that V5 allows the setting of multiple EPG update times such as, for example, every six hours or whatever ... https://github.com/sub3/NextPVR/wiki/Add...#epg-guide

Hi Graham, thanks a lot for the prompt feedback!

I think that having the possibility to schedule multiple EPG update times is really convenient and helps a lot.

Nothing more to ask on my side...for the moment! Smile

Thanks again and have a great evening!
