OK confessed newbie here. I'm setting this up for a friend and as a seasoned technologist - I don't have any experience with this kind of configuration.

Device lists as Hauppauge WinTV 885 BD Tuner/Demod within NextPVR. The label on the card shows WinTV-HVR-1250 ATSC/QAM/NTSC.

I have it installed, hooked it up to a cheesy antenna (just to get something coming in) and scanned. I got 6 ATSC channels (18.1-18.6).

When I select any of the channels the application pauses and then I get the message "Missing audio? You don't have a AC3 decoder selected. you can fix this on the Settings->Decoders screen." (copied exactly as displayed including misspelled "don't"). I have hooked this antenna up to a TV, done the channel scan and was able to watch all of the channels on the TV. So I know that the data source is valid and functioning...

Under the Decoders configuration | Audio Decoders - the AC2Audio is set for Microsoft DTV-DVD Audio Decoder. Not sure this is valid - but it's the only option available in the dropdown box (except for disabled which didn't seem like the correct option).

I have downloaded and installed VLC just because I know it comes with a lot of different codecs and hoped that one might 'show up' in NextPVR... it didn't happen.

Do I need a specific decoder? if so - where can I get it? Do I have the configuration set up incorrectly?

I've come to this point with NextPVR after spending a lot of hours trying to get MythTV on Linux to work. Being a 'Windows' guy - this just made more sense to me - mostly.

Any help is always appreciated!

Thanks everyone...

The VLC codecs are not exposed to other applications.

You can download the commonly used LAV decoders from https://github.com/Nevcairiel/LAVFilters...taller.exe.

OK - I downloaded and installed the decoders from: https://github.com/Nevcairiel/LAVFilters/releases. After install, it wanted me to go through the configuration of each of the 3 sub-sections. I did this - but left the defaults as set since I really don't know how this 'stuff' all hangs together.

Starting NextPVR, I immediately saw video which I wasn't getting before - but I still don't get any audio and I get the same message.

I went through the Settings -> Decoders and configured all of the audio decoders to be "LAV Audio Decoder" and tried again - still no joy. I am attaching my log files per instructions in this forum... hopefully this is a relatively quick and simple configuration issue?

Thanks in advance for any help you can provide!

I didn't see (but may have missed) the log showing use of the LAV audio decoder.

Please would you make a recording on a troublesome channel and then playback the recording and then post the logs telling us the time that the recording started and also the time that the playback started so that we know where to look in the logs. There is a button at NextPVR Settings --> About that will zip the logs for you. Thanks.

If you make a recording, then play that recording, do you get audio? ie, is this only happening in live tv?

Just after I posted - the sound suddenly started working. I don't know what happened... this is a VERY underpowered PC I'm using for my testing and evaluation. I'm going to transfer my knowledge to the intended endpoint PC now and see if this makes things 'better'.

Thanks everyone for the help and quick responses - I'll be back if I have more issues. Hopefully, it will be an uneventful installation with full functionality right from the get-go (ya right...).

Regards,
Bill
