NPVR is crashing quite a bit on my system. It will crash while watching a recorded program, while fast forwarding or rewinding or while watch a non recorded program. When it crashes during a recorded program, sometimes when I restart that program over again it will crash in the exact same point, other times it goes right past the point where it crashed with out a problem. I can also use the mouse or remote to skip over that part, It happens for shows on different channels but is particularly bad on one channel in-particular. Sometimes I have to use ctrl + alt + del to close the program, sometimes Windows closes it, sometimes I am presented with a dialog box to close to program. This happens in the latest version as well as the previous version.

I have thought about reformatting but think that would be to much trouble, but will do so if that is what it takes.

Is this a known issue and if so is a fix available or planned?

Thank You
Kevin

I would say no this is not a "Known" issue.
A copy of the logs after a crash or details of any error messages are needed in order to try and help.

What he said.

Plus ... tell us the time of any crash so that we know where to look in the logs

Plus, if you create a c:\temp directory, does a c:\temp\crash.mdmp get created in there? Please also post this dump file. Thanks.

If you've got a recording you can supply that crashes in the same spot, I'm happy to take a look at the file. You can supply it to me via dropbox or onedrive.

I just experienced a crash. I made a screen capture of the error. It is faded our because I clicked on details and it became unresponsive. I had to use ctrl + alt + del to close NPVR. After doing so I NPVR did not want open back up again. I tried right clicking on the service icon in the notification area and selecting settings, I also tried double clicking the icon I have on the desktop and right clicking the icon and selecting open. It eventually opened.

I cannot say for sure when it crashed. When it crashed it was only 1 minute and 44 seconds into a program I had just started. When I restarted the video was not the same at 1 minute 44 seconds as when it crashed. I had been fast wording through commercials. I had accidentally double pressed the skip ahead instead of the fastword button that is when it crashed. I assume the time bar had not been able to update before it crashed. But it was not very far into the show.

I ran a junk file cleaner on my system prior to this crash occurring it seems to have helped by I have also done this in the past and it eventually began crashing again. It has crashed several times ( at least 3 or 4 times) while watching one 1/2 hour episode. I had watched several episodes prior to experiencing this crash

The name of the show I was watching is Night Court the name of the episode is Mental Giant

Log files are attached.

It does appear to be an issue with the recording itself judging from the title of the error window. Although I restarted the program but have not experience a crash again with this video so maybe not

Quote:2018-02-06 22:42:43.330 [DEBUG][1] - MainConcept (HCW) MPEG-2 Video Decoder
The logs show you're using the video decoder Hauppauge ships with WinTV. This is a old version of a MainConcept decoder, which is known to have some problems, and some of these will crash whatever application is using this decoder.

Before we look at other options, I'd suggest installing the LAV decoders from https://github.com/Nevcairiel/LAVFilters...taller.exe, and set the Settings->Decoders screen to use these decoders, then see if the problem goes away.

Thank You!

I have installed these decoders and have changed all decoder settings to the LAV decoders. I will reply back here with results.
