How do I get codecs to install into NPVR?

I downloaded the latest NPVR and tried to set it up like i had done previously on an earlier machine. I also downloaded the LAV filters as instructed in a forum post "You can download the commonly used LAV decoders from https://github.com/Nevcairiel/LAVFil...-Installer.exe.". My problem is that the LAV decoders do not show up in the Drop down boxes on the Decoders page. Clicking on the box containing the three dots to the right of the drop down (which I suspect should create a "Browse" menu) does nothing. How do I get the LAV Decoders into the NPVR program?

When you download installers make sure you download the 32bit version even on a 64 bit OS

Hi there and welcome.

The drop down arrow displays a list of decoders that have been registered in windows as being capable of playing back the video format in question (i.e. it asks windows for the list).
The "three dots to the right of the drop down" will display the properties box for the selected decoder (if a properties dialogue box is available).

How do I get the LAV Decoders into the NPVR program?

NextPVR asks Windows for a list of available decoders. The decoders in the NextPVR dropdown lists depend on the answer from Windows.

It is most likely that the install of the LAV decoders did not go well if they are not appearing in the NextPVR list. My suggestion would be to try a reboot ... if that does not get a result ... uninstall and re-install LAV.

There is nothing that can be done in NextPVR ... decoders are a Windows thing and NextPVR uses whatever is available to Windows.

This is a brand new Win 10 machine that came with Windows installed at the Dell factory rather than by me (as was the case with my previous successful NPVR install) Before I installed NPVR, I installed VLC, just to be certain that some Codecs were in place. After installing NPVR, my drop down boxes only contain one Codec, "Microsoft DTV-DVD Video Decoder". I installed the previously mentioned LAV filters, uninstalled NPVR, rebooted, reinstalled NPVR and still have no other codecs. Apparently Windows is lying to NPVR about its available codecs. How can I bend Windows to my will and force it to divulge its codecs?

VLC doesn't install any decoders that other applications can use. It has it's own decoders built-in, but only VLC can use them.

When you install LAV, you've probably installed the 64 decoders. NextPVR is a 32bit application, so Windows will only tell NextPVR what 32bit decoders are installed on the system.

Woo Hoo! That was it. I had installed the 64 bit files since this is a 64 bit machine. Installing all of them, including the 32 bit ones did it. Thank you, you are the first forum respondent that I have encountered that has been able to correctly identify the problem and supply a working solution in any product support forum that I have posted to. Thank you for your efforts.

No I did not. I saw the email notification that someone had replied to my initial posting, I clicked on the link, and it took me directly to post number three. I did not look back to see #2. This is how we (I) learn.
