I use the nextpvr.exe on my laptop.
So I install V4 on my server, and on the laptop, then configure the laptop as a client. Because there are the context menus and navigation buttons in the fill V4 client, I can use it when the laptop is in tablet mode. From what I have seen, the broadcast is also direct play instead of being transcoded at the server.
I re-installed V5 today, and tried nlite.exe ( I didn't think V5 came with the full Windows client). It was slower than the V4 client when trying to navigate, and when I found the channel I wanted to watch, the client crashed when I went full screen. I then tried the web client in Edge again, and it has been stable for most of today. The only time I have seen issues is when the server is busy (80%+ CPU usage)
nextpvr.exe is available in the V5 install, but it's only for use with the local machine at this stage. nlite is an option for accessing a server on another machine, but it's a little rough around the edges (been meaning to revisit that). Another option is Kodi as a front end. I've also started working on a new type of client, for this type of situation, but it's still a few monthis away.
