Variable bitrate in direct.ini

Hi all,
I just downloaded GB-PVR and i have to say it's a great program. Wasn't as easy to set up as 'usual' software but once i got it running it wouldn't stop .

I'm very new at this so don't be surprised if this might be a stupid question:
Ive been trying to get GBPVR to record to a SVCD compliant mpeg file. I've got it working, though i had to edit direct.ini. Unfortunately the filesizes get too large for my liking so i'd like to record at a variable bitrate.

First can i change the recording settings somewhere else then in direct.ini (in other words have i been doing it the stupid way), and secondly how can i set GBPVR up to record at a variable bitrate.

Open the config app.
Go to capture sources.
Click your capture source.
Click Edit.

(I'm using a PVR250, so I'm using Direct Recording Plugin, if you use anything else, you're on your own from here.)
Click Settings next to Direct Recording Plugin.
At the bottom where it lists the Quality Profile Settings, select the profile you'd like to modify and hit Edit.
The next dialog is pretty self explanatory.

IMPORTANT:

By default, GBPVR ALWAYS records with Medium, no matter what you leave it on inside this dialog. The drop down is only there so you can pick one to edit. So, if you want a specific bitrate to be used by default for every recording, edit the Medium profile and you're done.

Feel free to edit the others if you want, but you'll have to manually pick High, Low, etc when you schedule the recording.
