Can Device Amplification Be Controlled? - what I mean by this question is: I have an issue with signal strength, it looks like. I have upgraded the splitter to a new one, and it has noticeably improved the signal strength. I tried a 12db amplifier, but it didn't help. On the HD channels and some of the SD higher numbered channels, the video pauses at times. Also, sometimes if I click on the "watch now" button, no video will be displayed and the tuner gets turned off, but only on the higher numbered stations 51.1-67.3 (I'm assuming these are the higher freqs).

So, I've had this issue ever since I started running v.5. I never had this issue when using v.4 which I had used for at least 2 years. So, I am wondering if there is something in a config file that sets up the tuners that is somehow reducing the tuner's ability to tune into the channel frequency, or has somehow reduced the signal strength received. Does such a thing exist in nvpr v.5? I'm wondering if I should go back to v.4 to see if I get the same issue.

Does anyone have an idea about how the tuners are controlled and set up in nvpr v.5? Can reception by the tuners be controlled somehow? I'm using Kworld ATSC UB435-Q (2x), and the same driver version I was using earlier.

Nope higher numbers are not higher frequencies, they are virtual, the highest number in the US is 36.

Signal strength won't have changed in v5. Boosters don't really help signal strength the might cut lose from splitters, but it is typically better to remove splits then add a booster.

Antenna quality , antenna orientation and good cable connections are the best things to try. You will need different antenna design for VHF and UHF and the lowest frequencies are potentially the worst on a UHF antenna. What kind are you using?

It's an HD directional antenna much like this one: https://www.walmart.com/ip/Winegard-Hd76...e/19410169

I just don't understand why I had no issue on v.4 on my old computer using the same tuners and drivers, and then this issue shows up on the new unit with v.5. I find a coincidence of a sudden weak signal at the same time of the change hard to believe. New splitter, same cables, all checked for tight connection. It's a mystery to me.

The BDA layer that NextPVR uses hasn't changed and it is very likely the TS writer is ok, or there would be a lot more reports of problems. I've been following your reports on other posts for a few months and I haven't seen other reports that match your issue.

Your antenna looks good, but make sure that the orientation hasn't changed, a few degrees makes a difference.

Do you see the video pauses when you play a recording in another player? ie, trying to determine if this is a capture or playback issue. Live TV does both capture and playback, making it hard to isolate the source of the issue, so often better to test with recordings.

Do you see signs of signal issues in other TV software? (like the software that came with your Kworld card)

It looks like I might be ok now. Perhaps the signal strength problem was due to the signal amplifier. It appears to be ok now since I have removed it. The pausing issue might be slow video, since I only see it while watching the station. It happens every minute or so. But after 5 minutes of recording, I didn't see it then, so recording seems to be better than viewing.

Thanks guys, the conversation helped.
